i just moved away to college and its hard getting to the gym some days I only workout 2-3 times per week right now and when i do I go hard. on a week that i only work out 2x in a week i do a bunch of pushups and situps some other days. I wanted to know if I am going to loose a lot of muscle mass if this contines for another 6 weeks or so until the weather is better and I can walk there. When I train I train hard and it is usually a full body routine like this

bench 4x 6-10
bent row 3x 10
squat 3x10
shoulder press 3 x 6-10
lat pulldown 3 x 10
sometimes i do arms at the end

usually i workout 4 days per week upper lower off upper lower off off

sorry i forgot to mention that "what can i do to limit or prevent muslce losss" is the question. thanks for the help

2 days a week is the absolute minimum you can really workout.

if that is all you have time for, then I would switch to somethign that is closer to a HIT workout. get in, beat the shit out of yourself and then rest for 2-3 days before doing it again.

alright i think ill just force myself to walk in the cold for 20min to the gym instead of losing wht ive worked so hard for.

20 minute walk? Get to it... that's around a mile walk. No biggie at all, but then again I'm used to walking around a mile to class due to my classes being so far away from my dorm.
It can serve as a decent warmup to your workout by the time you're there. Sip on a protein shake on the way back, and there's your cooldown

Now that sounds like a plan. :rocker:

bah! it takes me 30 minutes just to walk across campus! get in the gym you sissie!

But yeah, 2x a week should be fine if you just want to maintain. Just make sure you're eating right.

:clapping: I walk at least an hour a day to and from mass transit to get to work on top of my intense workout. As funk said, stop being a pussy and get that ass walkin'. :paddle:

Takes me 25-30 minutes to walk from my gym back to my dorm, it's all uphill too. Just do it! It's no biggy.

alriht i will admit i have been being a pussy, especially considering i am from buffalo and now im in tuscaloosa. well im walkin there soon and will be sipping a shake on the way back. thank you p-funk for calling me a pussy, the motivation i needed.

im wondering if someone did stop working out or really decreased intensity and volume how fast do you loose muscle if you maintain a good diet? :hmmm:

You wouldn't lose muscle too fast at all if you maintained a healthy protein filled diet. Muscle and proteins are one of the last things the body turns to for fuel, and if you keep up with shit your fine for quite the while. Strength and endurance will diminish to a more noticeable degree.
At your age, it is even easier to keep your muscle and bodyfat than an older guy (no offense you old bastards). This is not to discourage you from making that walk to get things going again however. People say 75% of the battle is diet, whether your gaining, "cutting", or maintaining.

yeah its friday i made it all four days (actually im gonna go for #4 when i get outta this computer lab :nerd: ) Im definitly psyched about gettin back to full intensity it feels great. thanks for the info and encouraging me a bit, i owe a lot of my sucess in the gym to this forum. :thumb:
