on saturday, I benched 408 for 1 rep!!! Very big deal to me, and much thanks to the following:

GoPro for the positive influence and recommendations for San products,
MeanCuts for positive influence and all around chat which subconsiously (sp?) assisted,

and Each and every regular ironmagazine forum member for the positive messages one way or the other with the contributions whether it was willing or not. You know who you are

Its a great accomplishment...I remember the first time I put 4 plates on each side of the bar and slammed it up! I was on a high for a week! :thumb:

If i put 4 plates per side, yes there would be a slam but it would be in the downward direction. :nana:

Nice job. That's an odd number though....with 4 plates being 405.

I haven't maxed in a while, wo perhaps one is due soon (though I have benched in months). You have inspired me.

I used a Hammer Strength Machine which I use because I work out solo (my friends are slackers in the fitness department). I was told by a few people at the gym that It is about as close to a Smith Machine for resistance as you can get. It has 18 lbs of resistance with no plates, and I did the following:

1- 45lb plate on each side for 12 (warmup) = 108 lbs (90 + 18)
2- 45lb plates on each side for 6 = 198 (180 + 18)
3- 45lb plates on each side for 6 = 288 (270 + 18)
3- 45lb plates + 1- 25lb plate on ea. side for 6 = 338 (320 + 18)
4- 45lb plates on each side for 2 = 378 ( 360 + 18)
4- 45lb plates + 1 10 lb plate on each side for 2 = 398 (380 + 18) note: This was a tie for my last summers 1 rep max; The fact that I did it for 2 pushed me to try more weight)
4- 45lb plates + 1- 10lb plate + 1- 5lb plate on each side for 1 rep= 408lbs (390 + 18)
took about 10 seconds to push, my left arm somehow made it up before my right arm.

After that, I tried 418 but didn't cut it. Maybe next time!!!

My gym just got one of those hammer strength machines on Monday, haven't gotten to try it yet, but hope it can help to get my free weight bench up.

I've got a good idea for you...put 4 plates on each side, but make them 25s instead of 45s. They are still considered "plates." Bench press it and tell everyone, "I just did 4 plates on the bench! Just don't mention WHICH plates...."

I'll Make it an even 8 15 pound plates :s haha

I was benching one night, diopng what I thoughtn was respectable weight...when I turned to the guy behind us...benching 405...un-spotted..for reps of five!
I have also seen him standing military press 310 lbs for reps....
freak!

Nice bench, I am stuck at 345 for awhile, but it is still a little odd to warm up with 225 and pound out an easy 15 reps  It wasn't too long ago that I was nowhere near that.

I got to 315 for 5 reps...will take a while to get back to it...I'd get squished pretty good if I were to try that right now...

I know a 17yr old who just put up 500lbs in the gym. Comp.'s in the WABDL, he has competed in sever mets where Ryan Kennely was there.

Kc

PA, I hate to tell you this, but neither the Smith or the Hammer is the same resistance and free weights.

Not only that, but its simply easier because your ancillary muscles do not some into play to the same extent as with free weights.

Still, its impressive weight, just wanted you to know.

Hum..must be a good protein diet...
:D

Dude.. I did 290 for one rep, and stopped.. ( just the bar no machine)

I probably could have pushed more but was afraid of any potenital njury

I used to max out at 225 not too long ago.. so Its a personal accomplishment

If I can get one of my slacker buddies to come with me on Saturday providing he's not too hung over i'll try the free weights and dumbells. The problem is getting my buddies to the gym for a spot. They'll always spot me with a beer though.

Regardless, nice lift PA. I train alone and can never really bench anymore, so its all dumbells, hammer strength, and smith machine for me now!
