In regards to owning a Mongoose there isn't anything wrong with it as long as you don't ride it on Medium/Advanced trails. Good for Community Parks and leisure rides with your kids.

IAB,, The Bike you bought looks awesome bro!! Good luck with it man. I contimplated buying a road bike but I think my wife would kill me if I bought another bike. I already have 3. My road bike which I wouldn't be caught dead on is a 1978 Schwinn Continental 10 speed. I can't even sell the darn thing yet it still looks pretty darn good.

Prince, 1,100 is the bottom line. Your not on a top of line for under 3,000 and as much as 9,000. It's totally insane. I buy in the mid range and just upgrade components little by little. My last bike was $2,200. I put an additional 1,000 into it. But again that is still mid level even for mountain bikes.

The market is awful right now. Prices are incredibly inflated and there is nothing available. We've pretty much decided that the only way we'll get the house we want is to build in a year or two. $1000 will make little, if any, difference. Like Firestorm said, $1000 in kind of an entry-level road bike for a serious rider.

Mongoose actually has a pro team and makes some pretty good high end bikes.

My ex-boyfriend has a Trek...that treated him well off-road.
I have a Schwinn MTB...it handled well also off-road.

anyone that sits on my bike though says it feels weird, like the handle bars are too far away from the seat. I don't know!! I'll probably buy a different brand next time.

For most people that don't ride, a properly set up bike looks and feels weird to them...

On the other hand, If YOU think that the bars are too far and you are having to lean in too far to grab them, you may need a shorter stem or a seat adjustment.

Treks are known for being long in the top tube - which is probably why they make women specific bikes with shorter top tubes.

What you are saying is true but, She was talking about her bike (I think ) Which is a Schwinn.

I used to have a Trek 7000 and I loved it. I really like the longer top tube. My Sugar has the same "genises" geometry. It's quite comfy.


The WSD is cool if you have a medium or short torso.

My Kona has it,Rocky Mountain is the same ,and so many others...
Then you take the C'Dale for exampl, which has an entierly different feel to it...
Shorter geometry(I don't know what the name is...)

I soo hear you about that "1st road bike or mountain bike or any high priced toy" I found that I'd rather spend the "extra" outright because I can't really afford the 2nd anything. I did that with the mountain bike. Bought a leftover M800 Cannondale and put money and more money into it. Then I bought the 2nd bike which is a mid priced bike as I've stated elsewhere. I'll tell ya,, I wish I had it all to do over,, I'd tossed all the money from the 1st bike into the second bike and had one hell of a 1st bike. (does that make sense?) hahahaha

I've actually been contemplating a road bike myself (don't tell my mountain bike hard liner friends they will call me a traitor to our sport). When I do finally buy one, I'm going all out. I'm don't want to be bothered with upgrading and shit. I'm putting out the money on something I'll be happy with for years without having to start looking for something new.(as I did with my mtb bikes).

Absolutely NO leg shaving!!! Blood quagulates and dries soo much cooler when intermingled with hair. You get some clotting and much better drip lines down to your ankels with hair.
Hairless bleeders just bleed straight down and doesn't look so good. Let's Face it, If you mountian bike, you Bleed and if you Bleed, Make it look as nasty and cool as possible!!!!!!

It's a buyer's market right now and interest/mortgage rates are at an all time low (I believe a 50 year low)?

Sure rates are low, which means everyone and their mothers are trying to buy houses. Because of that, house prices are through the roof. In most cases, sellers are getting asking price and then some.

It is indeed a seller's market right now. Not only are they getting asking price, in many cases they get ABOVE asking price because buyers get into bidding wars over houses.

I want no part of that.

I just wrote an economics article as part of a report we issued. In the past, recessions have been caused (in part) by high interest rates. This time, the recession was caused by other factors and the rates are low. This is the ONLY market that is doing well right now. People who normally could not afford mortgages are buying homes they cannot afford because the rates are so low. This is driving the costs up. The only people who benefit are people who already own.
