The Sonics leaving Seattle was no surprise. As soon as the team was bought by Clay Bennet and some partners from Oklahoma City, those in the know, knew the Supersonics would be leaving.

The previous owners (Starbuck's Shultz) and partners have lost tens of millions of dollars and they could not get the taxpayers to agree (by vote) to pay millions to renovate Key Arena, to get more revenue.

I followed the Sonic off and on during the 80 and 90s. Having an NBA team is good for a city, but it's become such a big business, with so much money involved, that I just don't care anymore. It doesn't matter whether they would have stayed, or that they actually did leave.

Seattle gets to keep the team name and logo.

Perhaps another NBA team will move from a down-market city in the future, but that would be a bit silly, wouldn't.

It's a business.

Only time I liked the sonics its on their payton and kemp days. Now their just garbage, wherever they move.

The Sonics leaving Seattle becomes another in the recent past to leave a city, following Vancouver and Charlotte. It is too bad when a club has to leave, but Oklahoma City has proven that they can support a team, as they did when the Hornets needed to play there for the majority of their schedule after Hurricane Katrina.

I am curious to see what the new name and logo will look like.

They can support the team b/c there isn't anything else there....its basketball or corn...LOL

Okay, they have a college to root for too.

i asked this before how can a team just move to a different city it will have no fan base at all ?

i live in wa close to seattle and since I love basketball, the sonics moving really sucks. I really went to games because I wanted to see the other teams because I was never much of a Sonics fan myself but now I can't even do that.

Oklahoma City Thunder?

Is this an XFL franchise or something?

I dont envy you one bit. :). Ill always be a heat fan no matter what their record says, ill probably move with the team if they were to move out of miami.......... well not really but ill mucho sad :( .

Money is the main reason why they've said that Sonics is leaving and it will go to OKC. I think they need to settle that before the start of the next season..Sonics is now building their team with young talents with prolific player Kevin Durant their. I dont like their moves when they trade Rashard Lewis and Ray Allen, the two all star that can bring the team on the playoffs. How Stupid move they've done..It takes a lot more years to see Sonics play in the playoffs again. How sad for the Sonics fans...Good Luck..Go Go Go Rockets, bring Artest in the house and I'm sure we will be on the Second Round.

"Will Oklahoma City be called the Thunder?
Clues emerged on Wednesday that this will indeed the the case, with the team's official website slipping up and then rectifying the situation later in the day, according to a report in The Oklahoman.
When the league released its schedule on Wednesday, the NBA web site linked to a page that listed the “Oklahoma City Thunder schedule” and clicking on any of the Oklahoma City’s 82 games took you to the url — www.nba.com/thunder
By Wednesday afternoon, the word Thunder was nowhere to be found on the Oklahoma City schedule page and all of the links pointed to www.nba.com/oklahomacity"

Ha.

the "Thunder"? LAME. How come none of these new franchise names have any sort of creativity anymore?
