I just called Gold's Gym and he gave me a quick estimate: $49.99 a month just to get started. But I setted up an appointment with him tomorrow to come with a better cheaper plan in the long run.

I would just get my own equipment but I don't have any space nor the money.

Is Gold's Gym my only source? I'm not going to Bally's. I tried the Free one week trial last year. I didn't stay longer than one day because 95% of the equipment was all machine and there was no squat rack and deadlift area.

From personal experience, I like Golds Gym. They tend to be pricey, but if you can narrow down a better deal, go for it - The corporation has gyms all around the world, so they know what they are doing.

Gold's is definitely not your only source.

If weights is your primary objective, you may be better off trying a private
owned gym. They generally, eliminate the unecessary that are packaged with your membership (Like boxing, yoga, dancing, etc.) and focus on weights and a few machines.

Many EX-Bodybuilders made their own gym for guys/gals that don't want
all the stuff offered in a commercial gym.

The more hardcore the gym, the heavier the weights. I remember seeing
a gym in Jersey offering 200 pound Dumbbells :rocker:

So, you don't need to settle for a commercial gym, if they almost but don't
exactly meet your needs.

Don't get suckered in. They will give you a free trial, but in the meantime make sure to check out the other gym's in your area. I used to work as a salesperson in GG, so they might bullshit you a bit. Also, make sure they specify whether the gym is corporate or franchise; if it's a franchise gym you can't use any other's GG within 50 miles. Outside of that travel passes should be available.

i love golds, thats what gym i attend :-D

Look for gyms that arent giant corp. they usually offer good deals and are more "hardcore"

Ive done a search for more hardcore type gyms in my immediate area with no luck.

However, my gym is 170 bucks for 18 months, and has weights up to 190lb dumbells.

Musty, hot and a decent environment.

This is true - I forgot to mention that.

And the extent of "using" another gym within 50 miles isn't exactly just. I go to college in Amherst, MA, where my home is about an hours away, maybe 50 miles tops. They have this system called the "Alliance Pass" where you can attend a different gym than the one you officially registered with twice a week TOPS. So, coming from a Gold's Gym in Amherst (school gym BLOWS.), trying to go back to my hometown Gold's Gym was a pain in the ass. Had to blow $150 for a summer membership. Unfair, and really pisses me off actually. I go to Gold's Gym merely because it's the best gym location wise at home and at school - never liked some of the bitches at Gold's Gym Worcester.. looked at me like I had three heads when I asked them if they could let me by since I already pay for the membership in Amherst.

Well, now that I've said that, I'm putting this old man to sleep. If you GOTTA, go Gold's Gym. They are great equipment wise, but the corporation is a huge piece of shit.
