For those of you that might not remember, I stated my experience with the VPX Meltdown product. You can find that post here:

Ever since that day I've continued to experience heart trouble, such as palpitations, dizziness, chest pain, and just a general ill feeling from time to time. This has been going on since August and it's become quite frustrating. I no longer take any weight loss supplements, nor do I take any general pill as I'm afraid of the effects it will have on me. I used to take a simple pain killer, such as ibuprofen without a problem for headaches; however, I took it one day and experienced more palpitations within 30 minutes.

There's a lot more to this story, but I want to get to the main point.

Today I started going to the gym again after an unwanted break. I had been to the gym last month without a problem, but the last few weeks have been crazy with work that I was unable to go. Today I had planned on working my chest/triceps but that fell short. About half way through I started to feel sick and felt something wasn't right. I noticed it was taking a little longer to catch my breath more than usual. I felt like I couldn't swallow and started to talk towards the front of the gym. When I stopped I noticed my heart was racing so I sat down. After a few minutes my heart rate lowered although I still felt a little weak. At that point I had to go home; I just couldn't hang with the thought of doing more and possibly passing out.

I've been to the doctor, had some tests done, although I have two more to do: a stress and ultrasound of my heart. I had a 24 hour monitor that basically said I have an irregular heart heat; doctor himself said my heart sounds fine but I have a few extra beats which may be the cause of my palpitations. The doctor stated he wants me to get an ultrasound and stress test to rule anything serious out, as he thinks the tests will return nothing that should be of concern, although I find that hard to believe, even though he's been a cardiologist for 45 years. I'm thinking my issue may be related to high blood pressure as it runs in the family, as well as the irregular heart beat which both my mom and aunt have.

As a side note, my normal heart rate at rest is anywhere between 40-50 bpm.

To be honest, I don't even feel comfortable going to the gym anymore or even working out with my condition. I've never had an issue with these things before in my life, and now that it's surfaced I fear a lot of simple things in life that I shouldn't. At this point I've decided to stop working out until I know what's going on. I'd rather not kill myself in the process. It sounds crazy, but to constantly feel like death is near or may happen at anytime is quite nerve racking.

Do any of you have any advice for me, other than the obvious of going to the doctor? All of you are complete strangers to me, but being a member of this board, even though I rarely post, I needed a place to vent. I just hope what's causing this isn't too serious and that it can be controlled. I just want my normal lifestyle back. :(

Thanks for listening.

Totally understandable.....Sudden life changes can really affect a person in ways you wouldn't think. I'm a senior nursing student and my dad has had heart attacks since he was 32 so I see a lot of strange reactions in ppl in these situations. The best thing to do is relax as much as possible mostly because its not good or you BP or heart but also because chances are you're not in any serious danger. I have an instructor who was accidentally shocked during a defibrilation and lives her life in a constant 1st degree heart block. In fact a large portion of the population lives with some type of heart murmur or extra beat. Your anxiety could also play a big role in this too. The shortness of breath you're experiencing could simply be a psychological reaction......Either way there's no reason to over stress yourself before you have some definitive answers from your doc.

I don't see any link between the ibuprofen and heart palpitations.... It shouldn't have any effect on your heart. Put your trust in your doctor he's got the experience, did you tell him about the VPX? You have to give doctors all of the info or else they just have to go with what they know and can see through the tests....

Ibuprofen? Def agree that you need to be completely candid with your doc.

I wanted to give an update on my situation and hope to get some pointers.

I had an echocardiogram and treadmill test, both of which were normal except the result of an irregular heartbeat, which had already been found previously in a 24 hour monitor. The Dr. says my irregular heartbeat is nothing to worry about and that after a few minutes of exercise it goes into a normal rhythm, but becomes irregular again after my heart rate returns to normal. Also, I'm a very low risk for anything serious. He basically said I'm a "boring patient" and wants me to return to exercise. My Dr. believes my situation is related to stress/anxiety and wants me treated for that.

What I don't understand, is when I did the treadmill test things were fine. However, any other time I try and exert myself I become dizzy and need to stop. I can really feel my heart pounding in my chest/throat which has never been an issue before and it's not a pleasant thing to feel. When my heart rate goes up, I can feel it beat and then pause slightly every few minutes. It's disturbing to notice that.

Even after the whole Meltdown issue, I was still able to return to the gym without any issues. Now, if I try and exercise anxiety seems to be a problem and I don't like it. I don't want to return to the gym unless I know I can do so without a problem, because even though exercise is good for you, I don't want to just drop dead while doing something I love.

My mom has a cardiologist that she goes to because she had the same thing and now she seems fine. I'm going to try and see what he can do for me because I don't want to live this way anymore. I want to hit the gym again and get my fitness back on track. It may sound crazy but I miss sprinting, it was such a challenge and I was getting really good at it. :(

damn, that sucks.. i think your doing the right thing, get a 2nd opinion.. and make it one of a specialist.

Damn I hope everything is ok with you.
