2 years ago I had surgery on my left leg, insurance crapped out on me and I didn't get to go through Physical Therapy. What happened was that the Patellar tendon broke away from the bone..

After this happened tho, I didn't work out at all..and up until recently I never really wanted to. So now my question is: Whats the best way to build up leg muscles without putting to much strain on the legs. I'm very paranoid about reinjuring this leg..

P.S. I never really do anything either, I just sit around workin on computers most of the time heh...it passes the time.

Time will change this tho :)

Not possible, There has to be strain on the muscles to build muscle.

Does it hurt when you bend your knee? I guess you could always start really low and build up. I dunno, more info please on what hurts and what doesnt.
 
By not putting ALOT of strain on the leg is what I meant, I know some strain will be necassary..I can't even do a squat without it hurtin, I'm thinking about using the leg thingy on my weight bench, perhaps that'll help build it up. (Sorry I just started like I said, and don't know squat about the names of equipment..but thats why I'm here)

Normally when I have to do some kind of squatting, I put most of the pressure on my right leg to take alot of it off of my left leg, I want to fix that and even it out. I'm just nervous about reinjuring that leg..
 
Yeah definately dont wanna reinjure anything. Thats leg extension on your bench. Can you do those with not alot of discomfort?
 
I'm about to go try after I finish this drink a friend of mine gave me from GNC..its supposed to have all the vitamins and stuff that a "body builder" needs, lol :)
 
That would be a leg extention, the opposite is a leg curl, just like a triceps extention or a biceps curl.

Since I am not certified in anything nor am I a doctor, I wont give any advice other than to use light weights, lift slow, do PLENTY of warmups, and hopefully someone has something for you.
 
I don't have knee problems, but it has become common to see athletes wearing pateller stabilizing braces. If you don't already have one, you should invest in one.

Your leg work should probally be no more intense them a brisk walk (you gotta start small and learn your limits!!!). Increase intensity slowly, your knee will let you know when it is ready for the loads you are going to be putting on it with the weights. Don't rush anything when it comes to your "bum" knee and if you learn your "bum" knee limits you should not re-injure it.

This long rehab on the knee gives you an opportunity to focus on your upper body.

BTW what does your Doc think about you working that knee??
 
My doctor released me to "Full activities". Shortly after the surgery I was out playing paintball..When I'm playing paintball all my pain..my worries..my fears leave me, and I don't notice anything. Its when I'm actually trying to work it out that I do heh.
 
If your doc released you to "full activities" you are good to go. Stick to the paintball and walking and move up to jogging. Hit the leg extensions and leg curls but don't add any weight, do high reps.

As the weeks pass I bet just like the paintball all your pain and fears will disappear and you will start doing leg extensions and leg curls with a little more intensity. BE PATIENT & CAREFULL!!

...a year from now you will be doing those squats:thumb:
 
So Being 17 5'7 160 Pounds and benching 310 and squating 410 and deadlifting 560 Are competive number ,,, cause i been keeping up with competions in my area and My numberz are better and them numberz are Raw cause have no skin tight shirtz to gave me that boost.... Im natural too thatz important cause I dont believe I need roidz I have the genticz to carry me ,,,, so reply and tell me what u think

People could care less about numbers that someone posts up on a forum. Enter a PL meet or get some video to prove it.

...I never really followed powerlifting. You seem exceptionally strong for a 160 lb 17 yr old...

BTW stay natural!!!...that also means NO pro hormones.
 
I had an associate in the US Army who had a horrible parachute accident. He had a poor exit and his leg somehow got caught in his deploying risers. Needless to say, it almost yanked it clean out of the joint the only thing keeping it together was his flesh.
Walking again was even questionable.
Of course a bit over a year later he completed Special Forces selection phase.
Dude suffered and battled to come back.
Look up that thread that was something about mind over matter.
Nothing like a little disability to motivate.
