i'm fairly new to the fitness gig, been training for about 9 months, more seriously in the past month. im 6'5" and about 320 pounds. my goal is to obviously gain muscle mass and shed the fat. i have read that i should consume 1-2 grams of protein per pound of weight to gain muscle. considering how much i weigh, this tends to be a difficult task. What do you guys have to say about this?

Yep, that's a true story. The more protein you eat, the more mass you'll gain! (when incorporated with the right diet, of course)

Welcome to IM!!

thanks for the welcome guys. so any recommendations on how that much protein can be consumed without a huge surge in calorie intake?

Kbear -

welcome. remember there is a difference between what good caloric intake and bad calories. calories from certain proteins and fats are not so bad for you. it is all the bad calories from mcdonalds and shit like that, that will not help you out. when you work out the good calories from chicken, steak, fish and such burn to help the protein synthesis. Just dont each shit and take a quality shake. bodybuilding.com has a lot of good advice regarding products and general information. check it out.
