Hi !!!!!!

I was curious if anyone has tried this method
while exercising at home.

Doing Push Ups, feet elevated 31 inches,
and, having your hands in a triangle shape
fashion.

Do you think this will help my upper chest?

Thanks!

When I was in the military we use to do those. I belive that they will work more of your shoulders and triceps then your pecs. But just about ever pushup will work on your chest. The best way I found was to position my hands on post or something to elevate my hands off the ground, but allowed my chest to go futher down then my hands where positioned. This makes you go further down and it is harder to push back up. Give it a try.

Thanks Crankytexan!

I'll try it in my routine tomorrow.

I agree with Tex. Hand position is key. If your hands are fixed closer together you will work your triceps. If they are farther apart you will work anterior chest and more of your front delts.

Yes, hands close together will work your triceps. However, keep in mind that you are not going to get bigger muscles doing pushups. You'll tone your upper body and build muscle stamina, but the key to building your muscles up is in weight training.

BTW, welcome aboard!

Thankyou I Are Baboon! (What A Unique Name)

Tone is EXACTLY what I'm looking for.

You see, I figure doing 15 Reps of 10 will
be a nice warmup before I go to the gym.
Also nice when you take a day off from the gym and you feel guilty.

Thanks A Bunch for bringing that to my attention, AND THE WARM WELCOME!

Cartoon Network, my friend. One of the best channels on cable TV.

Just a note the push up bars act as a mental barrier breker. People tend to not go down far enough when there hands are on the ground then when they are elevated. All the time I was in the military and now I still do those type of pushups. I have never had a problem with my shoulders. But it is common sense that if you feel pain stop.

Ok Crankytexan, hows this;

Legs Elevated 31 inches.
Upon doing the pushup, my chest is 1 - 1.5
inches from touching the floor.
Keep my back as straight as possible.

Is that Okay?

Thanks

Check out this site. It is a little goofy, but it shows what I am talking about. There is also a tip on how to make it even harder.

Good luck.

Resistance training has two purposes - build muscle and strength.

You cannot target the "upper chest". The chest will work as a whole, do not waste your time on "shaping" and "toning" exercises.

Doing these push ups are a waste of time and effort, get yourself in the gym and bench.

Cackerot69, I value your opinion. Thanks!

I do go to a Gym. This is just something
to do before I go to the gym.
My Home Routine Consist of;
30 Pullups
150 Elevated Push Ups
150 Incline Flys with a bar with a spring in the middle.
30 weighted crunches with a 45 pound concrete block.
60 Shrugs with a 35 pound plate
40 Squats with a 35 pound plate

Then, I will go to the Gym for a workout. I'm
NOT subsituting, more over enhancing.

Crankytexan,
Thanks for the Link!

Best Regards,

Doing that will no nothing but hinder your efforts in the gym. You are basically just cause your body to become fatigued with no benefit at all.

What do you think doing that will do? How do you think it will "enhance" your physique?

Cackerot69,

I have a High Metablosim and I'm Vey Hyper.

A Trainer called me Agile (What ever that means)

This is something I have dealt with all my life. Its kinda hard to explain.

But, exercising at home increases my energy.

Put it like this, if I want to go to bed
early, I have to pace around the house in
order to get tired. If I sit for 5 minutes
with no motion, I get stressed, when I move about, I'm relaxed.

Do what you have to do, i guess.

I'm just saying that little home routine you have won't help you at all, and will probably hinder you.

Use all that energy in the gym, and eat a ****load of food.

Thanks Caterot69!

For the record, I've been doing this home routine for a year, so I'm used to it.
BUT
I'll will take head of your warning though

Thanks Again!

Be carful with going past your natural range of motion doing them the way tex said, I don't think you'd have a problem with just pushups but if you go down that far with alot of weight, you could pull a muscle in your shoulder.
