Sup guys and gals, Phil from Alberta Canada. Been a power lifter for over 20 yrs and a big fan of good eats and great living. I don't suffer from cancer, or have a tear jerker of a life story here. All I have to offer is the simple honest experience I have acquired over my years of prayer in the temple of Iron. I just feel empowered there and help anyone who askes, weither it be for a spot or an opinion on a new program they are about to ebark on, it's all good to me. As long as it's fun for you and them! (and myself...) I'm really looking forward to meeting some of you and sharing in the wealth of exerience that I've already seen.

Be good, stay strong and...

DIIIIIIG FOR THAT LAST REP!!!

Philly.

Uncle Phil,
Hi from NE Ohio, been a disciple of the Iron game for over 4 decades, us old guys need to stick together!! You`ve been a power lifter for 20 yrs. means you got callouses on you hands & I like to do the Hand Test, which is," If you don`t have callouses on your mits I ain`t buy`n what your shovel`n. If you got them, I`ll listen to every word". Look forward to your input, and insights. Alberta`s gotta be pretty country.

Got the callouses and thick mitts, I know because my wife complains all the time it's like getting a massage from a caterpilar dozer...

Where do older dudes hang out in this place, not looking to make myself pretty or a underwear model here, just to get stronger and better at what I love to do.

Philly,
I don`t know where old guys hang out, I`m new to this forum stuff. You mentioned getting stronger,& better, sounds like we better break out the chains, & start using them.
I find " Bands" to be incredibly difficult to use in training, and definately short term. I`m up at 3:30 am, leave the house at 4, hit the gym 5 days a week and party between 5:00 am to about 7:15 am. A pair of straps last me about 2 months, train Bat outa Hell, Heavy every day. Can`t get enough.

I used the chains to break my 490 slump on the horizontal slab, got a 500 shirtless at Xmas this year. I did a 14 week training split with the 12X3 step system. Got the % up and up, then hit it like Thor's hammer itself. Never knew what hit it. Myself, I get up at the crack of when ever my dumba$$ recruits need it, then hit the fun room at the conveniance of my schedual.... We do MMA also at least 3 times a week, keeps the urge to kill healthy and ever-present. Gotta keep them kids motivated eh?

Yo Big Philly,
500 shirtless, that`s fantastic!! My PR is 515 for a single, done raw just like you, but I did it 22 yrs ago at a body weight of around 235. Back then we didn`t have chains, but I use them now.
I had the same training partner for an 8 yr period. We used to Bench twice a week, alot of doubles, triples, and pauses, we used no boards either. I remember reading Powerlifting articles back then, & picked up on doing seated behind the neck presses.
So we did them once a week on Saturdays, heavy. My training partner, topped out at, your not going to believe this, 405 for a double. I`ve never seen anybody do that, then or now, My puny PR for this movement was 385 for a single. I don`t know if there`s a tie in between doing the behind the neck presses, and Bench Pressing, but both of our Benchs climbed during that period. Now I use the chains for doing DL`s, and Bent Over Rows, although they tend to fly around pretty good doing the rows. Still luv the chains!!!The Big 500 A HELLUVA GOOD BENCH!!! & doing it shirtless to boot!!

Duuude, that's impressive for a back of the head military press. 405! Damn. There has to be a corolation between the two, I mean, I'm no rocket scientist but it works right? I usually do that once a week with my gym monkey, big Doom, he's 6'5'' and 260ish... I'm 5'11'' and hover at around 275ish... I'm getting him in the heavy state of mind. On the press, we usually go with sets of 8, well, 6 to 8 and I end up with 375 to 390 on the bar. Never did a PR on that, just seems too dangerous. I use ATP wrist lockouts on that too, just makes it easier to write and do stuff at work after a heavy day. I'll try to remember to bring my camera to the gym one day and actually show you guys instead of just saying, a picture is worth a thousand words right?

Philly,
We never looked at doing the Behind the Necks, as dangerous, the bench we used had racks at 2 levels, real low, same height as your traps, when sitting. The other rack was much higher, where your arms were at about three quarters locked out to rack the bar. We always used the lower position, so we started the movement, after the lift off, BY BLASTING it off your traps. The hardest part was being able to grip the bar, before you pressed it, at that lower position. Our anterior delts used to be so tight from all the heavy Inclines, & Flat Benching, still was alot of fun, and damn rewarding, not bad for a couple of average guys who happen to Luv the Iron Game. Bet we could sell tickets to come & see you train, just the experience has to be motivating, I can sense the intensity in your communications!!!
