Crime drops in every state where carry concealed laws are passed. No exceptions.

But what what about swords?

I'd be willing to bet that if a law were passed that required all gun owners to attend a training class and carry proof that they attended a class before they were able to purchase a weapon, a lot of these numbers would decrease. Too many first timers are buying weapons legally only to accidently shoot themselves or someone else. I'm a strong proponent of the NRA's Eddy the Eagle program. Many school districts in NC have it as part of their curriculum.

In Kentucky, you have to take a training course including live fire exercises and pass a test. Then you go to the local sherrifs office and complete a background check application. Once both are completed, you get a CCW permit. You had better have it with you if an officer ask for it.
I doubt the stats for people killed by people with permits even registers on the scale.
The bad guys will ALWAYS have guns. This only party levels the playing field for the law abiding people.
If the bad guys know we can't carry, we are then open to what ever they want.
Personally, I carried long before they allowed it. 30 years and I never had a reason to pull a weapon.
As a foot note, I did give a very nice 38 to a police officer one night to avoid being charged. He asked me what it was when looking in my car and I said "Never saw it before, is it yours?" He said maybe it is, have a nice eveing.

On thing I think we ALL can agree on. BAD PEOPLE WILL ALWAYS find a way to have guns if they really want them. No matter what laws or "whatever" is done to try to prevent them from getting them. So when someone walks up to you and points a gun at your head it is of SOME comfort to KNOW you KNOW how to use a weapon in such circumstances and have the ability and knowledge to KNOW how to respond appropriately IN AN INSTANT. That weapon could very well be your body and how well you develop it and take care of it - it is PARAMOUNT to your survival in many ways... When you ask it to do something it must be able to respond in a heartbeat without any question! No matter what is "allowed" or "not allowed" AT THE MOMENT OF THREAT YOU MUST BE ABLE TO PROTECT YOURSELF and have the presence of mind to do it RIGHT the first time - you usually do not get any second chances. If a terrorist for example came to this country and wanted to try something and I saw them in the process I would NOT HESITATE ONE SECOND to blow their brains out or whatever it would take to prevent them. If it comes down to them or me IT WILL BE THEM that LOOSE - FAST!!! It is called survival... I do not advocate violence necessarily but I can sure see the NEED for it at times. You can not reason with someone that is unreasonable and you do not have the luxury of a little more time or whatever more often than not. You must call it as you see it at the time. BE YOUR VERY BEST IN ALL THINGS, mind, body and spirit. Be open minded but not foolish or stupid or "pollyana" either. It could cost you your life. Take Care, John H.

IMHO the fact that cars kill more people means nothing when trying to argue the safety aspect of guns.

Gun control can show stats backing their side. Fortunately, or unfortunately there are no stats on guns SAVING lives.........
Sure it does............proportionately guns kills no more than cars, alcohol and cigarrettes.

I see stories everyday of armed persons spoiling attacks, robberies and such. Guns do save lives. But where this info can be found, I have no idea.

Kuso,

Check out this site: http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/guns.htm

I love this stat:

According to the 1997 Survey of State Prison Inmates, among those possessing a gun, the source of the gun was from -

a flea market or gun show for fewer than 2%
a retail store or pawnshop for about 12%
family, friends, a street buy, or an illegal source for 80%
