How effective do you think they are? I don't have a bench at my house so I do push ups for chest but started doing 1 armed ones the other day... man... when I was 15... after watching Rocky.. I knocked out 25-30 with each arm... the other day I could barely get out 2, yes 2 with each arm.... I am about 30lbs heavier but can also bench press 35 more lbs...

Well my goal is to get up to doing 25 with each arm...by March-April time frame

how effective does everyone think they are?

I would think any kind of pushup would work more muscle endurance than mass building or strength.

Initially they will be effective, but if you're trying to increase strength and size, additional weight will be necessary.

If you're just trying to stay "fit", then I guess doing push-ups will be enough.

why?

If I put a scale down and then Put my arm on it as doing a push-up its 135-140lbs depending on how low I go... so wouldn't it be the same as doing DB Bench Press' with 135lb DB's?????... besides that the stabalization necessary... it would work your whole body..... I mean once you get to a point that youc an rep out at 20+.. yes I think endurance would be the factor but until the point????

So let's say you can do 25 pushups in a row, not that hard, I can do it.

Can you press those 130 db's for 25 reps in a row?

I wouldn't think so but.. my point is..where is the difference? why is it?

I know that once you hit a certain point say 15-20 reps..its endurance after that but until then wouldn't it increase strength and thus some mass....

saying I can do 3-4 right now.. I keep working until I hit 15 reps.. wouldn't everything between the 3-4 reps and the 15 be building strength?

Really w8?? you can do 25 one arm push-ups?? that is impressive..

I used to be able to .. but then again I used to be able to do 30 pull ups as well...

You really have to use progressive maximal weight for strength gain....You're still only working muscle endurance if you're doing 25 reps of BW, the first 5-6 won't be contributing to strength gain, nor would the 6-12th reps be contributing to hypertrophy. If you can do 25, the weight is too light. That's my theory anyway, lol :D

To a point I guess, but I think you'd reach that level quickly and wouldn't get much out of it.

Er....no, lol, I can only do 5 .....I was talking reg. push ups since i was comparing t w/ the dumb bells, my bad :D

Thanks :thumb:

Being a big boy is actually very counterproductive when doing one-arm push-ups .. It'll ruin your shoulder & elbow, and doesn't actually 'do' anything more for you than normal push-ups.

I find one-arm push-ups to belong the max-bench category.

Try upping your two-arm push-up, do push-ups on your knuckles.. and most important: do diamond-pushups, these will work your triceps more (and you'll need them if you want to do singles ...).

(A little "eye of the tiger" in the background will work miracles ..)

Whast the correct form for 1 arm pushups? I alwasy have my legs real wide, but how is your arm suposed to be?

Muscle Gelz Transdermals
IronMag Labs Prohormones
i would think that one arm pushups work more tricep than pec because of the necessity to put your hand in closer to your body to maintain balance. this would make the excercise similar to close grip bench press, a tricep excercise.

One hand pushups are hard to accomplish. i give anyone mad respect for doing a lot of those

Dont pushups have only about 50 pds of resistance?
