Been working out for a few years total. Had surgery last Nov so missed from then until end of Feb. Things were going ok up til a couple weeks ago when problem began. I used to work out for an hour or so and I would get the normal pumps that would pass after a short rest. However, now I am just barely able to make it through two exercises at 3 sets each before I get this pain in my upper arms. For instance, I do flat dumbell bench press then machine rows and then bam it hits. It's really more like pain than a pump feeling, not like a pulled muscle feeling though, but really hard to describe. I have to sit out for like 5 minutes before it stops bothering me enough that I can continue my workout. I was hoping this would just pass but like I say it has persisted for a couple weeks now. Has anyone ever experienced this before or have any suggestions on how to resolve it? Thanks.

Really hard to say without more information. Could they be cramps? Are you hydrated?

Well, I wouldn't have thought that I was dehydrated but that is a possibility. I know I probably lost a lot of fluids during my surgery so maybe I've never fully recovered from that. I'll try increasing my water intake and see if they helps. Thanks for the thought bro!

I get a really bad pain in my right delt when I do shoulders. I think it's from the pump b/c if I give it 5 minutes I can lift but it comes back. Taurine seemed to help. I do a lot of stretching too. That may help for you. And of course lots of water and potassium.

I was wondering about my potassium level. I just had a bunch of labs drawn yesterday so I'll find out about that soon enough. I never thought about adding taurine, I used it once for back pumps so maybe it will help for this too. Thanks golfer!

I would recommend getting it scanned. Without info it's difficult. Deep massage therapy is a life saver. I would take a break or the 5 mins you need to sit out for becomes 10, 15mins, before you know it you can't go to the gym at all because it's to painful. Don't rest for 3 days so it a bit better, male sure it's completely healed before going to the gym

Ok, thanks for input bro!

Problem Solved

Well, not sure what it was but it is gone now! I took 9 days off from the gym and increased my water intake by 2 litres a day during that time. Thanks for all your input and suggestions!

You never said what your surgery was for or where the pain is. In relation to the surgery site. They could be associated or have nothing at all to do with one another...

Sorry bro. I did mention the pain was in the upper arms but I didn't mention the surgical site. I had a partial colectomy in which they removed about one foot of my colon. I have to wear a bag on my stomach now that my shit goes into instead of shitting out of my ass. I get to have everything reconnected in January so I'm trying to stay in the best shape my present condition will allow.

why did you require that surgery ? (if you dont mind me asking)

Freakin diverticulitis. Somehow your colon gets a little pocket in it then food can get stuck in it. Then the food can cause an infection like mine and form an abscess. The abscess was about to eat through the bowel wall so they had to take it out before it became life threatening. Now I can't ever eat certain foods again like nuts, strawberries, tomatoes, cucumbers, poppy seed buns, etc. Really sucks too because I loved strawberries lol.
