Anyone here ever have panic attacks or major anxiety? I started having panic attacks 3 years ago....They put me on medication, I just couldnt control them. So, Im on Paxil and it works well.....Ive been lifting for a month now and have been fine up until today. I was at the gym, it was rather hot in there today. I was working hard and all of a sudden I felt faint. My heart was racing and I think I jsut kinda freaked out on myself. So i went to the locker room, splashed some water on my face and took it easy the rest of the workout. Im wondering if its all in my head? Anyone ever have panic attaacks here before? Someone who can relate?

I get them but only very rarely. Ive had maybe 2 or 3 in my life. It's the worst friggin feeling in the world, though.

You should just tell your shrink, he might try a different drug.

I had them very bad about 10 years ago. Be careful becoming dependent on any drugs. It is probably best to work your way through them. I became addicted to Xanax and it was awful.

I used to hear people talk about panic attacks but could not relate to them until last year. I was laid off from my high paying IT job and it really threw me for a loop. I was completely freaked out - I had three attacks in short order. Panic attacks really are beyond description. They were completely debilitating. I literally could not move. Now I can relate to you rjr.

I did not see a doctor, but absolutely would have if they continued. I got back into lifting, adjusted my diet, and started running/cardio again. In short, a bodybuilding life style and they have not returned. I also have been working ####### my spiritual life in the last year. All of this has helped. It sounds like this attack wasn't debilitating, but definitely tell your doctor - especially since you are on medication.

Keep the healthy life style going, and with your doctors permission, you can probably get off the meds some day. Physically fit and spiritually fit can do wonders.

Hi! I have them and constantly fight them.

I have been told to get on medication for years and I finally feel that I am starting to overcome them without and on my own.

Whatever you do - . Dont be aftraid to go back to the gym because of them. Once you let them start to control you they only get worse.

Remember YOU ARE IN CONTROL.
YOU STARTED it in your head so ONLY YOU can make it go away.
NOT the medicine or a person or a safe place.. Its you allowing yourself to calm down.

GET MAD - F*ck this! Dont let them control you! YOU run your life!

When one comes Accept that it is there and dont try to force yourself not to feel that way. Say to yourself "Its a panick attack .. So what?!"
It can have a good effect on taking the power from it.

Breath about 10 times slow..this helps.

Focus on your surroundings .. this helps. Describe them in your head.
Say, "the room is blue with white edges, its 10:03, that lady is wearing a red shirt and blue shorts, . "
It helps you get your mind off of it.
Sometimes I plain just ignore it.
Ill get this dizzy feeling or freaked out feelingand Ill purposely go talk to someone. Pretty soon , Ill have a better hand on it.

Remember, they ALWAYS end. Say this has happened before and it will happen again. But one thing I DO KNOW is that it WILL END!

Hope that helped.

Thanks for all the words of encouragment...I first had a panick attack 3 years ago, and it really took me by storm. Through my whole world off track. I had them really bad. The doctors didnt know what was wrong with me, which made it worse. And let me tell you it is the worst feeling in the world. I felt like it was the end for me at any moment. I stopped taking the meds for months awhile back but had to go back on them because I jsut couldnt control the attacks. When I first got them every little ache or pain that I felt I thought I was dying. I guess I was just in the gym working hard and all of a sudden I just tuned in to my heart and how fast it was beating and it startled me I guess. I got woozy, and had to relax for a bit. I recouped and finished my workout which was great. Im definitely not gonna shy away from the gym. Thanks you guys for everything.

I went through a nasty spell of attacks. Its some scary shit. Its a whole new world when u get them under control. Good luck!

Yeah, I used to get them a lot.
Mainly in confronting situations like either asking girls out,
or on the way to work.
I would start shaking and didn't want to face anyone.
Was on a drug called Kalma for a while, and still have a bottle,
but the attacks have seemed to subside naturally thankfully.
Art.
