Pat's death was extremely sad and shocking.
But i kinda disagree with some of you guys, and with some of the people on ESPN b/c they stress "he gave up riches to serve". Yes, he gave up millions to play sports in order to serve his country. But i think they miss the ENTIRE point as to what is so honorable about his story. its not teh fact he gave up millions, its the fact that after 9/11 he thought to himself that he could serve his country in better ways than playing football. He thought "what am i doing that can help my country"? and so he joined the service to fight for something he believed in. That's why i was going to join the Marines. B/C I, like Pat, always thought it almost unfair that people i'll never meet in my life are over there fighting a war so i can bodybuild during the week, party like an asshole on the weekends, and not have to worry about securing my own freedom, if you will.
BUT, Pat's death any more honorable than someone who enlists and dies who isnt in the NFL, b/c those soldiers didnt give up millions?
PLEASE, DO NOT get me wrong here. i think his story is one of the most courageous things i've ever seen. BUT i think its sad that people only realize hwo great of a tragedy it is when someone who was famous dies, as opposed to some "no-name" guy you've never heard of, who joined and died in combat. And teh WORST thing is that, in my belief, he, and all the other soldiers who have died, have died prematurely b/c of some war that we no business being involved in anyway (but thats a different story).
Regardless, my heart goes out to Mr. Tillman's family, and i sincerely hope that they commemorate him in as much of a special way as they can.
