I thank God for this great American who gave himself for his country. He brought great credit to the US and the Army. I hope schools and children are named after this man for generations to come. He would have been a tremendous success, but he also served us in his brave and sad death. May he rest in peace. Amen.

Sad...........

That sucks. Nice to see an athlete not just go after the money.

Right! Most athletes bitch about everything and still make millions. This is really sad. He definitely deserves to be honored in the most memorable way.

He made big news here in Arizona when he gave up the chance for a million dollar contract.
He was a real stand up guy, very sad day

Pat was a great guy. I had the honor of meeting him and talking with him on quite a few occasions...we had mutual friends. You always knew where you stood with him and what you saw was what you got. Never met a more genuine person. A very sad day and a great loss indead.

You know whats really sad is if you go on ebay and do a search on him there is a buttload of stuff that just started today. FUKERS!!

I myself spent 3 years in the army to serve my country but to also get a steady paycheck. Tillman had that steady paycheck and gave it all up to serve this great country of ours. He will truely be missed. I had it in my mind since he enlisted to look out for news headlines and hope nothing happened to him (not that I don't value my other brothers and sisters in the armed forces) but today the nightmare hit. :(

His rookie card is going for 40k on ebay. Its just sad that people like to profit from tragedies like this.

Look at it in a postive light. Pat Tillman's card is in high demand because of what he stands for, and folks want to be a part of that. It is a part of his legacy. Movies and books will be made too, and someone will get rich, but ultimately, it will glorify for posterity everything he stood for: service, honor and integrity.

I'd like to believe that austin, but the only part of Pat's legacy this person on Ebay is interested in being apart of is "Freedom". Freedom to make money off of someone else's tragedy and loss. I bet you won't see John H starting a thread about where that guys money is going to go.

This is one seller's post from ebay. He listed a Tillman card for .01 so he could post this...

It???s unfortunate that people are trying to make a buck off this man's death. The first auctions began upon the confirmation of his death Some of these auctions are scheduled to close even before his body will be laid to rest. And some auctions are starting out at $1000.

Understand, I???m as grateful as anyone for his sacrifice. And I talked to my children about how courageous he was and that he should be looked upon with greater awe than any of the actors or singers that they (my children) see on TV. But to give an outrageous amount of money to an Ebay seller for profit is UN AMERICAN !

People, search the internet and contribute to a trust fund in his name. I???m guessing that a thank you letter from his family for your donations would be worth much more than a Topps Football Card.

Lastly, all of the Pat Tillman items you see including this message will soon be removed by Ebay as they too along with millions around the country agree that those who are trying to profit from his death is not the way he should be remembered. So don't bid.

I didn't read that. I was seeing all of the stuff on there and was just sick to my stomach!! I'm glad someone listed that!!

Here is something good. There was one person "buying' the stuff and as soon as the auction was over they would leave negative feedback immediatly calling them a sicko. I'm glad they did that!!

Pat's death was extremely sad and shocking.

But i kinda disagree with some of you guys, and with some of the people on ESPN b/c they stress "he gave up riches to serve". Yes, he gave up millions to play sports in order to serve his country. But i think they miss the ENTIRE point as to what is so honorable about his story. its not teh fact he gave up millions, its the fact that after 9/11 he thought to himself that he could serve his country in better ways than playing football. He thought "what am i doing that can help my country"? and so he joined the service to fight for something he believed in. That's why i was going to join the Marines. B/C I, like Pat, always thought it almost unfair that people i'll never meet in my life are over there fighting a war so i can bodybuild during the week, party like an asshole on the weekends, and not have to worry about securing my own freedom, if you will.

BUT, Pat's death any more honorable than someone who enlists and dies who isnt in the NFL, b/c those soldiers didnt give up millions?

PLEASE, DO NOT get me wrong here. i think his story is one of the most courageous things i've ever seen. BUT i think its sad that people only realize hwo great of a tragedy it is when someone who was famous dies, as opposed to some "no-name" guy you've never heard of, who joined and died in combat. And teh WORST thing is that, in my belief, he, and all the other soldiers who have died, have died prematurely b/c of some war that we no business being involved in anyway (but thats a different story).

Regardless, my heart goes out to Mr. Tillman's family, and i sincerely hope that they commemorate him in as much of a special way as they can.

We all die, what matters is how you lived. All these military people are heros in my book. Ive always been very proud to be an American military veteran..............take care...............Rich
