If pinto's are so low on the Glycemic index, then why does everyone say stay with the basics when cutting....IE brown rice, Yams, Oats. Hell Pinto's are lower the both Brown rice and Oats. So one of you genie's with a BA, Masters or doc in Nutrirtion explain this to me.

Then Jodi why don't BBer's incorporate it in there cutting diets. Hell there high in carbs, have more protein then rice, oats and yams. I just don't get it. They say stay away from these when cutting. please is this true or false. Can the be used in a cutting diet or is that bad.

Competitive BB's mainly stay away from it because the fiber can cause bloating. Everyday BB's looking to lean out or just healthy diet then they are perfectly fine and a great source of protein and fiber!

I LOVE legumes as a good carb source - high fibre, packed with protein, excellent sources of many minerals/vitamins and other useful things and low GI/GL too!! (along with being really tasty! :nanner: )...

Along with the fibre/bloaty thing that Jodi mentioned a lot of people also like to keep their food macronutrients more strictly 'divided' when they are in preperation for a competition.... So, as legumes have a high % of protein - it often presents a more complicated process of picking your carb/protein/fat sources for a meal in comparison to the carbs like brown rice/sweet tato etc.

Well ty you very much. this was something My mother kept asking me why i don't eat them. well seeing as there my favorite, sounds like them and whey make for a good anal cough!!!!!!!!!!

Coconut Oil???

Isn't that a severe no-no?

I used to have a "recipe's of the islands" cookbook...

most of the recipe's used some coconut
Had to abandon it, after reading the sticky's on those ingredients

Coconut oil is an MCT - medium chain triglyceride. It's "suppose" to be healthy but I've read mixed reviews on it because it being all sat fat. Some people swear by it, I tried it and never found any benefit from it. Lyle McDonald said in a chat one time that it is not worth it.

Gallo Pinto

1 cup raw brown rice (steamed)
5 cans (16 oz) black beans (rinsed and drained)
1 chopped onion
2 large green peppers, chopped or diced
2 large red peppers, chopped or diced
2 1/2 tsp. ground coriander
4 Tbs. veg. Worcestershire sauce
2 Tbs. tobasco sauce
1 scant Tbs. salt
2 pkgs. chopped, frozen spinach (thawed and squeezed)

Spray large casserole dish with something like Pam. (We used a LARGE, round
Le Creuset dish.) Cook rice ahead (we used a steamer so that the rice
wouldn't stick together). Saute peppers, onions, spinach, and seasonings.
Add rice and mix. Add rinsed beans and mix. Heat through (covered). Enjoy.
