With the crazies on this forum, I may regret it in the morning by posting this.

I have been diagnosed with prostrate cancer. ANd as an FYI: No, I do not blame steroid use in my youth for this. Prostrate cancer just happens, no one really knows why.

Anyway, I am more than likely go the non-surgical route and do the radiation with hormones. The IGRT radiation has just as good of a track record as surgery with less chance of having to wear a diaper the rest of my life.

What is my concern is losing muscle when on the hormones. The hormones will shut down my test production and "starve" any stray cancer cells the radiation may miss. De[ending on test results, the hormone therapy could go as long as two years.

The doc has encouraged me to keep working out through the process. This may sound stupid. But without test, how is it possible to maintain muscle, not to mention have any growth? I did ask the oncologist this and he blew me off with "You shouldn't worry about that."

I am just confused and needed to say something to people that understand the concern.

I am sorry you are going through this. I wish you the best. I know it is easy to get fought up in the small stuff of a disease. I have UC and every year i land in the hospital for a couple weeks and drop 15-20 lbs of muscle due to the lack of food and the steroids(prednisolone) they put me on. But all in all ....you can't sweat the small stuff. And it is all small stuff in the big picture of things. Be happy for each day you are alive and know that you WILL be able to get the muscle back. Good luck.

im sorry to hear that..i believe once u have prostate cancer u cannot have high or even normal test levels ever again..it is how they keep the cancer away..now i dont about if u were to just use like eq, deca, tren..ones that do not raise your test at all..my pharmacist friend said they shoot to keep your test levels under 50..with the range being 240-1000..
it will be very hard i am sure to hold onto muscle, but you will have to change your lifestyle to mabe say cardio type exercises or just keep training hard and eating very clean and see how it goes.

Best of luck with this brotha...

Keep us posted on how things go...

Stay positive... :winkfinger:

This shows how dedicated you are... You get told you have cancer and your concern is your muscle mass...:clapping:

I would be thinking the same thing...

fuck man, thats sad to hear. im so sorry, ill say a few prayers for a amazing recovery

Thanks everyone. Your words are encouraging. Tomorrow I meet with the radiological oncologist to make the final decision on the treatment. This will be an interesting road no matter which treatment I use.

Now I am at the stage where I just want to get started to get it over with.

I wouldn't be worrying about building muscle right now. Just focus on the cancer, After you beat the cancer, just shoot up some synthol and SFW. That way, you can look like you have a high test level, even though, in reality, you're gonna have the natty test level of a 9 year old girl. :winkfinger:

sorry to hear this brother, i have faith everything will go fine
concentrate on your health, you could build muscle later

Smoke tons of pot, it has been proven to cure that type of cancer.

Pot isn't a cure for cancer, it just helps ease the symptoms (nausea, pain, lethargy, weight loss) I have my medical marijuana card for colitis and it has helped with all of those symptoms for me.

What would be the case if you opted for surgery? I take it you wouldn't have to take those hormones? My father had the robotic prostate removal (entire removal) and he was back to himself in 1 month. This sounds more like the route I would be willing to go...

Got back from the oncologist about an hour ago. I'm pretty excited. It seems that radiation is the way I will be going. The very bad cancer is restricted to a small area of the gland. The other positive areas are the slow growing kind. This makes a perfect candidate for the narrow beam radiation.

The other good news is that the hormone therapy will only last 6 months. One shot, one time, that's it. Unlike things even a few years ago, the advances in this stuff have been astronomical. The oncologist, said the stuff she uses will kill my T for the period of time, but the long term chemical castration is no longer the gold standard. In fact, the medical people have figured out the long term T suppression actually does more harm that good. So, as it was put to me, "If you can stand a few months of suppression, everything will be back to normal very quickly."

I did ask about keeping T suppressed for the rest of my life, her answer was "Where did you hear that? That is 20 year old thinking." She actually said that once the cancer is "officially" gone, she would put me on T if it doesn't rebound on its own.

The reason that I went with the radiation instead of surgery is A) No operation, B) Unlike the radical prostratectomy only 1% of men end up with leakage or incontinence. because the radiation bean is so narrow and focuesed, there is less than 10% chance of long term ED. Unless the cancer has moved into the nerves, which it looks like it hasn't. And, a big AND is since they are only zapping the bad parts of the prostrate and leaving the good stuff, I should be able to ejaculate normally in time.

The down side if this shit is costing $40K, which my insurance is paying 25K so I need to pony up 15K. The wife wanted a new car this year, well she is going to have to wait for a 2013 model.

Oh I have a wicked crush on my oncologist. There really should be a law about having really, really pretty with a great personality taking care of me. I couldn't get my full flirt on because the wife was sitting in the examining room with me.

And get ready for your penis not to work just ask SFW:coffee:

Maybe not. The targeting radiation bean can avoid the nerve bundle. So far no signs of the nerves being effected.

Besides, I have no issue with taking a little blue pill, the up the urethra suppository, the shot what ever it takes to get a woody, I will do it.

My wife is good looking, I love her, and we still like to romp like a couple 20 somethings. She understands that something may happen. And that we may need to take some extra time and bring in pharmacological help. She doesn't care, so neither do I.

A friend at work had his cut out. He is single and is pretty active in the dating life. I asked him how women react to him when he tells the about having the prostrate surgery. He said some of the women are understanding and accept him needing Viagara. For the others who are put off by the situation, he tells them that they are shallow bitches and not worth his time. He dumps them and never sees them again. He also said that he believes he is getting laid more often than before. Seems some ladies like the challenge of getting him up. I have no doubt he is playing them. Love that guy! :winkfinger:
