I eat dinner within 45 minutes after I finish my workout. Is drinking a protein shake on the way home overkill if I eat within 45 minutes post workout? I have one with complex carbs not to long before I go to the gym and sip on extend while working out.

Drink a whey protein shake mixed with fast digesting carbs (waxi maize, dextrose, maltodextrin) with some glutamine and creatine immediately post workout. Then wait an hour and have your post post workout meal.

I recently came across the muscle hypertrophy article on wikipedia.

... more than 30 g protein in a single meal did not
further enhance the stimulation of muscle protein synthesis ...
There are a few problems I see there such as the population this
was conducted on, and their routine. This is mentioned on the page
as well.

Personally, I eat when I get hungry. Although for me it usually
does not happen until at least an hour and a half after my workout.

No I don't think so. I slam a 1k calorie shake immediately post workout then eat a full meal exactly 1hr after my shake. I generally limit myself to 3 shakes a day and usually try for only 2. That's me though - I prefer whole foods
