How many shakes should I drink a day. In the past I have tried to get my protien through real food, but it is rather hard when I am on the go all the time. I am pretty muched burned on Tuna and egg whites. I finally tracked down a store ( I Live in Moscow, Russia ) that catters to bodybuilding. I bought some locally made protien powder ( Russian made in the Moscow region ) and it very inexpensive. It cost 80 roubles ( $2.70 ) for a 16 portion pack. No fancy packing and pormotional advertisments, just the goods. One serving ( with water, not milk ) contains 41 grams of protien, 175 calories and 5 grams carboh. I want to get all of my protien without a lot of extra fat as I am still trying to lose the spare tire and lovehandles.

Would 3 or 4 a day be considered too much. At 16 cents a serving, I can splurge a little.

what is your weight and body fat % ?

I would get the majority of your protein from real foods

Yeah...real food is the best...even if it is a pain in the ass.

as already stated, real food is by far superior. However protein powders do help in times of convience and aiding in getting in our daily protein intake.
Myself, always post workout and if I need another in the day I will.

if you eat well, twice a day is plenty, however, you can take shakes 3 times a day, (morning, after training, before bed).

I dont believe the "real food is superior" argument. Many foods have incomplete amino profiles and somewhat often low quality at that. Now if you balance your diet thats great, but it may cost you some moola to get there.

I dont see anything wrong with having 25% of your protein intake as whey protein.

The only time I like to drink shakes is right after a workout because of the fast absorption rate of whey protein. I would think that drinking a shake first thing in the morning might also be good because your body will be starved for protein then too. I prefer eating real food, whether or not it is superior (Although I think it is if you eat complete proteins).

My thing is drink as many as you want to reach the amount of protein you want to have for the day. If you???re unable to get it from food I would rather have 4 or 5 shakes than not get the amount of protein I need.

combine the protein with other foods to bring up the #'s in each meal.

stir into yogurt, into oatmeal, use it instead of milk in fibrous cereals.
