My younger sister is bipolar, along with my father, grandfather, and uncle. My mother seems to keep insisting that my oldest daughter is acting EXACTLY like my younger sister did. She is worrying me because I odnt see anything but the terrible twos... my daughter is 23 months, is this way to young to diagnose her with it?

Hope you will find your answer from here.

I have a brother, husband an aunt and uncle with it so I understand. Therefore, I am also on the lookout. I have a 7 year old child The AACP caution against diagnosing bipolar disease in kids younger than 6, my psychiatry friends and pediatricians say that diagnosing bipolar disease younger than 6 is not recommended as well. It is still a challenge in midschool years and teenage years but with less vagueries. Other diseases can mimic bipolar in the young like ADD, oppositional defiant disorder etc. so if you have problems make sure you get more than one opinion before labeling your child bipolar. Most of my family members had their classic "break" in the twenties so it was easier to diagnose them than others. ( They had bipolar I) My daughter also had the terrible twos but is doing well in school and very social so I am not going to fret over it.
