Tomorrow I am getting a vacuum guage installed on my evolution so I can monitor vacuum and boost pressure. Now, I've read some information online and some of the information is slightly confusing or not straight forward. I need to know how to properly read a vacuum guage. It's goes up to 30mc. Does anyone know how to properly read this? What is a normal reading for idle? Normal reading for accelration? Normal reading for deceleration? Any help I would greatly appreciate!:wacko:
 
Why do you care about pulling vacuum?

It's the best way to monitor vehicle performance. The benefits of installing an auto vacuum gauge are simple; the gauge indicates your instant mileage, based on manifold pressure, so that you can adjust your driving habits. High readings on the vacuum gauge indicate high pressure in the manifold and this means you are using less gasoline. Low readings on the vacuum gauge indicate low manifold pressure that translates into high gasoline use and poor mileage. It is probably the best instant method of monitoring your current miles per gallon usage as the readout changes instantly with pressure on the accelerator. You can use this gauge to correct poor mileage habits the same way, instantly. (i googled that)

Its been a while since I have looked at mine. My Mustang has been in the shop for a while, but I think 15 vac sounds right. I am probably wrong though.


Yeah, some of the information that I read said that during idle, anything between 15-22 is a "normal engine." But, when I accelerate and decelerate, there really wasn't any clear information on where the needle should be.
 
If you care about fuel economy buy a diesel Jetta.

Buy a 0-30 psi boost gauge and mod the fucking car until you can finally peg 30 psi. :coffee:

Speaking a TDI and 30 psi, I blew the fucking stock turbo off a 2005 Passat TDI while pulling 30 psi at around 115mph. The stock turbo would live all day at 27-28 but I just received a 30 psi ECM from Jeff @ Rocketchip. The idea was to baby the car on the new ECM until he sent me a 17/22 hybrid turbo. Well that plan lasted half a day until a 03 Anniversary Edition Mustang GT wanted to run. :lol:

Mine makes about 44psi boost.....:daydream:

The Pro-Street diesel pickups are running well over 100psi (more like 150) in the 1/4 mile. Hell, they were pulling 60psi back in the early 2000's when they only were making 700hp at the wheels running 11's. They are running high 8's and low 9's now.

My buddy Earl down in Cairo, GA owns this green machine which is a 5.9 Cummins powered 1500 truck.

I love that aggressive idle sound from these roadsters. Don't get me wrong, I love modding and working on my Jap car(s) but nothing even comes close to that sound. It's intimidating.

OK. Let me help. Boost =good. Vac=boring. Cruising, the higher the vac, the better gas mileage. Idle vac varies from engine to engine, camshaft profile has alot to do with this. Decel will show a very high vac reading (25in or more.)
 
I love mustangs! What kind of mustang you do you got?

2005 GT

but with a 2004 Cobra short block stroked to 5.0 (picture shows procharger installed at 16psi, but I an now installing a custom whipple 3.4l with around 22 psi)
Car made 620rwhp with the procharger, I hope to be in the mide 700's with the whipple. Had issues with the fuel system and meth kit that we put in.

Jesus Jay...that car is absolutely beautiful! What a beast too. Definitely looks mag worthy. You need to call muscle mustangs and fast fords or 5.0 magazine.

The price does go up but I could adjust the wastegate spring pressure andjust my boost set a over boost alarm and reads vacum and boost .....what brand did you buy
 
lol that photoshoot was for them. but I had two photographers fighting over who was going to shoot my car for MM&FF, but I guess the editor all ready told there main free lance guy to get a hold of me to shoot my car. So they didn't publish those pics, but I have been talking to them still and as soon as its out of the shop with the new set up its going in.

It's an autometer. 30/30 guage. (30 vacuum reading/30 boost reading) It's all black, with a glow orange inset to match the color of my whip. Cost me 130.00. How much was that digital AEM?
