If this is the wrong forum, please direct me there.
I've searched the web and have seen different opinions for explosive sports like hockey, and would like some advice for my off-ice training regime. My main goals:
*Explosive skating from stop
*45 seconds of an all-out spring with 2-3 minutes of recovery
*Endurance (as opposed to the above, being able to skate strong late in the game)
*Strength in legs, core, and upper body
*Balance
I assume my best course of action is a regime that includes weight training, HIIT and plyometrics (here is my plyometric workout I've been following: HockeyShot Training Program - Your #1 Source for Hockey Training Tips & Videos! - note: not the resistance training part). There are some pretty basic hockey-specific workouts on YouTube on whatnot that have items like 3-way lunges, pushup to row, etc. that I assume I will be following as part of my weight training.
So, my questions are:
1. What would be the best weight training regime for the strength I'm looking for?
2. When should I be doing cardio - directly after the weight training, include it in the weight training, etc.?
3. And my main question for the entire thread: my schedule is practice on Tuesday nights, games on Sundays. Practices are pretty tame. What should my schedule of working out be? I don't know if squats a day before games is a good idea, etc.
Thanks in advance. And if anyone knows of a better place to pose this question, that would help as well.
