Should glutamine be taken daily or only on workout days? Before, after, or during workout? Is glutamine mandatory when bulking?

5 grams right after workout with your pw shake, and 5 grams before bed with your shake as well. It's not "mandatory" when bulking but it helps your muscles recuperate quicker.

oh thats cool... Only on workout days??

There is really no scientific recommended dose for Glutamine...
Experts say you can take up to 40 grams. This is about the maximum your body can take in they say. Some of the big guys here take 15 grams a day.. 5 grams pre workout / 5 post / and 5 before bed. If you want to learn more about Glutamine, just do a search on the net. You will find many detailed descriptions describing its benefits.

Should it be taken only on workout days. Well that is when I take it, but you can take it on your off days too if you like. Since it is pretty expensive I myself just like to take it during my workout days.

Generally, I only take it on workout days, but if I wake up witha bit of a cold or something i took a teaspoon... helps with the immune system too

In a recent release of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, the results of a study on glutamine revealed that a single 2 gram oral dose of glutamine elevated circulating growth hormone levels by over 430%
With GL3 you???ll be able to effortlessly increase your growth hormone levels by over 430%!

By keeping a consistently high level of circulating growth hormone, you are able to combat the catabolic effects of weight training, harness the anabolic activity of increased glucose and amino acid uptake, improve whole body nitrogen retention, and increase lean tissue protein accrual.

Well worth using even on non training days. These are the days when your body is recovering and growing.

Thats almost like saying: Should I eat on my off days? lol..of course you should take it on days off because that is when your body is recovering from your previous workouts(and obvious sleep is the same thing). With my protein shakes I take in 32 grams of glutamine a day. go to www.1fast400.com they have ON glutamine 1000 grams for like $34.99. Even at a high dose thats enough to last most people a month. I have noticed better recovery time, and better general health from taking glutamine. Obviously its probably a combo of things that actually give results. Taking one supplement alone is not going to work any wonders. Basically you need to make sure your body is getting what its lacking from food intake. Thats what supplements are for. They are not a cure all. Supplements are expensive but what better to invest your money into then your health and fitness? :thumb:

Good point ah1. With me on my workout days is when I have my habit of mixing all my concoctions. On my day off, just 1 day a week I skipped my glutamine and creatine. But you're definately right. I think both creatine and glutamine should be takin on your off days too. This is the same for your nutritional vitamins... :)

Hmmmm according to that article they indicate that it is not necessary to take creatine on your off days. Well I don't think if you're only taking like 1 day off it really matters much one way or another.

They also speak about the loading phase. I've heard lots of contraversy over this topic. It is to my understanding that you can avoid the loading phase altogether since many believe the excess is just a waste and with that amount never gets absorbed into the muscle that quickly anyway. For me I've always done the 5 grams pre and 5 grams post workout method.
In addition I don't believe in spending money on all this fancy stuff. I use the 11 dollar tub of ISS standard creatine monohydrate powder. Wish the Glutamine was that cheap :)

Thanks for the info though..

Randy
