WASHINGTON ??? Congressional officials say the government plans to suspend the popular ???cash for clunkers??? program amid concerns it could quickly use up the $1 billion in rebates for new car purchases.
The Transportation Department called congressional offices late Thursday to alert them to the decision to halt the program, which offered owners of old cars and trucks $3,500 or $4,500 toward a new, more fuel-efficient vehicle.
The congressional officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly.
Through late Wednesday, 22,782 vehicles had been purchased through the program and nearly $96 million had been spent. But dealers raised concerns of large backlogs in the system, prompting the suspension.
 
You have to love our government..."We would be happy to continue this program, but it was just too successful, so we cancelled it." Idiots.
 
this might sound extreme, but it's my opinion, - government ran programs are like meeting a really hot chick at a bar, taking it home and then later finding out its a dude! Seems great at first, but once the clothes come off you're dealing with dick!

whats a couple of billion lol! Not like anyone has any thought process anymore in this country! The only remedy I've found as of lately is sitting home drinking SAM ADAMS (American beer) cleaning my side arms listening to country music while grilling some steaks. THIS IS 'MERICA!

It is starting to look more like Nazi Germany 1935 to me.

Is it a coincidence that Hitler's Volkswagen was the only car people could drive and now with Obamma's program all you can buy is a very small gas efficient car.

You can buy any vehicle you want. Just the other day this Modified Diesel Rig with a regular truck bed and jacked up suspension came rumbling into our Solar Supply parking lot, he leaves it idling while he hits up every department we have for Saving energy, first our Solar Water Heating, then me in the Photovoltaic/Wind/Hydro/Fuel Cell division and then our Skylight/Solar Attic Fans, his Electric bill is around $400 a month, and he would need to spend $60k plus to have a zero bill, and he's like "God damn this shits expensive..." All I can think is that he probably spends over $100 a week on his monster trucks fuel which is the same fuel his house is being run by via the utility....he is basically powering 2 homes because he needs his Big Boy toy....if he was worried about expenses he would sell the guzzler put a $30,000 solar system up and buy a fuel efficient car and save lots of money. Before he knows it his solar equipment will have paid for itself and he'll have a pocket full of cash he can go buy some Catalog Whore Wife from the Phillipines and won't need his boy toy to make him feel like a man.....

Damn! Robert assured me that this place had changed. But it hasn't. It still looks like anytime anyone new comes in the regulars and the mods jump on everything with insults and drive them off.
