how long should you wait to rest a secondary muscle that has been used like triceps? if you do the military press or shoulder dumbbell press your shoulders are the primary target however the triceps have been indirectly trained, so my question is can you put in a chest day the day after you just performed these workouts? or even tricep and back day hitting the triceps directly is this okay or do secondary muscles that get hit need the same rest as any other muscle?

Continue to do your compound exercises and dont worry about the isolation exercises for the smaller muscles. There getting hit indirectly with each workout and will grow.

You've made like 5 threads along the same lines as this one - you're thinking way too much about this secondary/antagonist/indirect/direct muscle group stuff. It doesn't matter.

So long as you hit all the major muscle groups the same amount as eachother, rest as many days as you train, and eat enough, you will grow. It doesn't have to be as complicated or confusing as you're making it.

If you're that worried about it, put all your pressing movements (chest, shoulders, triceps) on one day and give them a whole damn week to rest. Works better than bodypart split programs anyway.
