How important is a secure email address for online purchases. should i get one before making any purchase. and if so any recommendations on a secure email.

Alot use gmail, I even used hotmail for a while.
I use safemail now, and honestly unless you are using something like annonymouspeech where they have servers in other countries and you pay each month to use their service, a simple warrant can remove all security from your email. Just make a fake account, get an anonymous web browser for when you are dealing that masks your IP.
