Should I buy this car?

I've known(at least two) people with Nissan's , who have had nothing but trouble with them. I had a Peugeot 205 for 11 years 145000 miles with it 45mpg, never broke down once. Some idiot crashed into it in 2001 and wrote it off.

I think people should drive whatever car they want. I get tired of the "you gotta buy American" crowd and I really get tired of the "American cars SUCK" crowd. Both crowds need to shut up.

isn't that what makes America great though, freedom of speech and voicing your opinions?

I do not really think American cars suck though, I just think Japanese cars are superior.

Those two Nissan owners I refered to as examples in my last post never looked after their cars nor were interested in them-- but that seems to be the trend with people around here (brits in France {or French people} who have Japanese or Korean vehicles). I'm driving a Peugeot 106 (Feb 1997) now, once again no trouble in the three years I've owned it , I look after my car though, and it always behaves well........

well, aside of oil changes and maybe the air filter, you should be able to go 100k miles in any Honda, Toyota or Nissan without a problem under normal circumstances, beyond that you will need to start doing some maintenance work, i.e. tune-up, timing belt, brakes, fluid flushes, etc. Otherwise you will start having problems and they could get bad especially if you are one of those idiots that never replaces the timing belt and lets it break, and then find that you need to have your fricking engine overhauled at 100k.

Key Word, Should be.
With my experiences, that's not the case with Toyota. I know a guy who is a Toyota mechanic and he tells me alot of cases where injectors have been dying in the 3L V6 engines, like that on the camry or avalon in cars that are well below 50K miles. I still like Toyota, but sometimes it will surprise you.

I agree, all I am trying to say is that they are built bettter. Most people are judging these cars from what happened in the past, I doubt that their opinions will ever change.

I couldn't agree more.

Don't change your mind, there is something special about owning American Muscle. It's not like your buying a Taurus or a Nova.
I still have my 1990 Camaro with me even though I mostly use the Dodge Mini van for the family.

When I move out of NYC I plan on getting a '69 Camaro or a Cuda.

I have 4 kids and 2 nephews with me, they can't fit in the Camaro which is good anyway...I'm a speed demon. :D

You sure that isn't backwards? Most automatics these days fail between 70-100,000 miles. I drive a vehicle with 252,xxx on the odometer but its probably on its third transmission by now (I dont know for sure). Automatics need rebuilding or replacement way before the engines do (if you take care of them and they were broken in and built correctly).

The engine should have plenty of life in it but if the transmission has even over 100k on it, expect death soon. Unless its dirt cheap or you are broke and need something for a couple-few months, forget it. I've bought cars under a grand that have lasted me for as long as I owned them and made over 30 MPG.

Gotta love beaters.

Yeah, its not like a BMW has never pulled over, I've seen it. I've seen Mazdas, Toyotas and Hondas pull over too, some of them personal friends.

My 252k mile ride is American made, I've joyfully owned imports as well (240Z especially).

Friend of mine just spun a bearing on a late model Toyota MR2, its only a few years old. He wasn't on the track either, never tracked it at all. He is Korean and a former 1995 and 1994 Z28 owner.

At work we have federal agents who use seized cars for undercover work, well this one agent I can't remember if he was IRS or DEA brought in a BMW to have his 2-way radio removed and he asked me if I was interested in this car that was going up for auction. I was ready to take the info to buy it until he told me how much the tune up cost him.
$2000.00....for a freaking tune up!! I said fugedaboudit.

Mazda trannies are notorousi for going bad. Their rotary engine will last you a lifetime but if you were ever to get a Mazda get a stick. Mazda's automatics weaker than the manuals

1998 Crown Victoria Polic Pkg

My friend bought this a couple months back. It's a '98. It used to be a Police car so it has the police pkg. Then it was a taxi. The engine has approximately 100,00 miles on it. The tranny however has 300000. I test drove it real quick last night and it drives nice. I didn't hear any noises. The car handles great and breaks good. Body is in good shape. It's going to need a paint job down the line. I was searching the net and came across a tranny for it for $575 including shipping that only has 45K on it.

He is asking $1500. IDK about prices but it is below blue book. What is your guy's take on it?

Thanks

If you drive a 1998 Crown Victoria Polic Pkg with 100k miles...

True Story

Why don't people just drive with a manual transmission? Better fuel economy and a nice right arm work-out! (Or left arm in the UK)

I've driven automatics a few times , hate the way they 'kick in ' when they think the time is right........

more expensive for a reason.

Yep...the reason is that people will pay more. ONE reason people will pay more is the "american cars suck" bullshit.

In NYC it would be a pain. Stop go, stop go.....we barely have open freeways. The Long Island Expressway is usually a parking lot during rush hour.
