Similar exercises for the same muscle

How should I pick the exercises for a particular muscle group? For example, if I have to train biceps, should I choose "Barbell Curl", and
"Dumbell Curl", or maybe because these exercises are very similar, doing 3 sets of both, would be exactly like doing 6 sets for each and therefore the choise would be poor?

There are many recommendations everywhere to use many different exercises, so that the muscle won't adapt to a particular exercise, and will stop gaining mass. However, are "Bench Press" and "Decline Bench Press" considered different exercises, even tho "exrx.net" shows the same Target,
Synergists and Dynamic Stabilizers list of muscles for both of them?

Thanks.

I try to keep my exercises as varied as possible. So, the example you laid out is something I would generally avoid. Instead, I would do barbell curls and hammer curls, or maybe some really close grip chinups.

i do the same. An example my last bicep workout was 3 sets of seated dumbbll curls. Then 2 sets of reverse grip barbell curls. The end. :)

i do 3 sets of preachers
3 sets of DB curls
3 sets hammer
3 sets concentration
is that overkill?

IMO yes. i would say 10 sets for bi's max. Although if your getting results dont stop. :thumb:

i guess i could see better resulsts if i dropped the sets..
btw..they are sets of 6-8 if that helps.

probably would not be a bad idea. :) 6-8 reps is a good range. Make sure that for your final set for each exercise, the max you can do is 5-6 reps. That has always worked best for me. If you can do more reps on your final set your not lifting heavy enough.
