sit ups

That's a pretty general question, I do weighted decline sit ups only cause reg sit ups are kinda point for most peoples goals

how long is a peice of string

What are you trying to get out of sit ups?

well it really depends my friend,

It was a common held notion that sit ups work the core when in reality it is a predominantly hip flexion exercise. The vast majority of people have tight hip flexors along with rounded shoulders forcing the body to be in a hunched position which in the long run could effect other lifts because muscles are not in proper positioning for movement leading to faulty movement patterns.

I would say to do crunches as opposed to sit ups, do you know the difference? Crunches allow for more abdominal activation without the anterior pelvic tilt of the sit up. There are many different types of crunches.

If you curve in the torso as opposed to keeping it straight you will work the abs. The hip flexors are the dominant muscle if you keep the torso straight, which many people seem to think is the way to make the exercise "more strict".

Regardless, situps are a pretty useless exericse. In the last 1.5 years I've done maybe 10 sets over a few workouts when I was doing more of a bodybuilding-oriented strength program (Baby Got Back). Even then, it was just minor extra work mainly for a fun pump and the slightest bit more ab work, but really they contribute nothing when you're already giving an honest effort in major compounds.

I don't remember the last time I did ab exercise... but I think sit up is great for posture. Strong abs prevent you from slouching.

i do sets of 20 reps of a few body weight excercise for 3 minuite rounds while resting between rounds on a punch bag
ie-20 squats,20 sits ups,20 lunges,20 press ups etc.
sounds easy but its nasty towards the end and is good for endurance but i doubt its much good for any thing else.

i love when there is a big boxing match coming up, how the cameras follow around each fighter, watching them at home in their personal/family life, and then in their camp training.. i know all the deads and overhead lifts along with squats build a great core, but so does the old school way of training the boxers follow... tons of leg raises, crunches, situps etc...
dont neglet these. boxers have a tremendously strong ripped core..

my old neighbor david douglas, was a pro boxer and currently coaches a lot of fighters, both mma and boxers, always has his students doing tons of leg raises, situps and crunches.. when he , along with a few other coaches were training the shamrock brothers, this kind of ab training was used very much..

Ya boxers need endurance, most body builders/power lifters don't really care about endurance.

Boxers do a lot of calisthenics period. A lot of that training is based on work capacity and endurance. Sure they train power and strength but fights are very cardiovascularly demanding so they need to train this way.

Situps generally involve a lot of spinal flexion.

wow thanx for the positive responce guys...will ab exercise help with getting of love handles?or is there some other exercise that would target thar area better?

No. You can't target fat areas and the only way to loose fat at all is with a proper diet. Exercising only helps burn a few extra calories.
