i dont know if this is sleep paralysis or something else but most of the time every night when im sleeping i would wake up but then i couldnt move my body.its weird cause i can see everything but my body just wont move.sometimes i see things when i keep my eyes open and i hear voices(no joke).my friend told me that if this happens to just move my fingers and that should wake me up.i did this(i can actually move my fingers only) and it wakes me up after a couple of seconds but sometimes it takes at least a minute or more till i get to wake up and move again.does anyone know why this is happening to me?i know some people who experienced this also but couldnt give me a straight answer.some say its science some say its a religious thing like something bout the devil trying to take your soul away(seriously).thats how it feels though, its like my soul is awake but couldnt get out of my sleeping body. it freaks me out when its happening but then once i wake up its like nothing and i go back to bed.its funny cause sometimes after waking up i would fall asleep right away and it would happen again.

Taken from Wikipedia:

Treatment

Clonazepam is highly effective in the treatment of sleep paralysis.[12] The initial dose is 0.5 mg at bedtime, while an increase to 1 mg per night might be necessary to maintain potency.

Ritalin has been used successfully as a daytime medication to promote structured sleep patterns and the prevention of sleep paralysis in some adults. Care should be taken to monitor blood pressure along with other appropriate tests. Dosage starts at 20mg per day (morning) increased weekly until episodes diminish.[citation needed]

I god damn I have that. Its fucking annoying. I have been able to break out of it by storing up all the mental focus I have then trying to blast myself out of it like an Olympic lift. I'm not joking, it works most of the time.

this happened to me once.. i was all fucked up on ambien though

really? do you haev to use it, or can you sleep without? it took me almost 10 minutes to be able to move when it happeend to me, and once i could move, i was all fuckin drunk feeling

I have a neurological condition that keeps me from sleeping. I take a high power cocktail prescription drugs every night. Ambien is the weakest drug in the cocktail.

I have had sleep paralysis episodes hundreds of times. It can be fearful, but you are one step ahead of the pack if you decide to venture into lucid dreaming. Being able to achieve mental conciousness and awareness during body slumber is an ability! You just happen, like some people, to have it naturally. Don't let the "devil" talk worry you. Just look through history, look at all the natural phenemon that was blamed on evil forces. I
,m not saying that it isn't possible that other another being isn't present, but that is just speculation and not a thing to worry about IMO. People are often scared by what they don't understand, especially in such an instance as your own.

I too have heard and seen some strange things during that state. People are naturally inclined to be very afraid when they can't move, it is complete physical vunerability! The things that bother you are not physical, don't be afraid. Bravery is key when dealing with sleep paralysis. I don't use the word overcoming because sleep paralysis is something that can be of interest.

I have had it a number of times.

I agree with FuFu. It is a very interesting experience.

I wish I could have lucid dreams on demand.

I have had many lucid dreams. They are interesting, but I always feel like ass the morning after a lucid dream.

Sleep paralysis, as far as I'm aware, is a way that we are protected from acting out our dreams. If we weren't immobilised during dreams we could injure ourselves or others.

I've had it a few times. The first time was many years ago. I felt that there was an evil presence in the bedroom - apart from me, that is - and I made a great effort to move. I sat up in bed and growled and told the 'presence' to clear off. When we find we can't move, the mind tries to make sense of it and often assumes that something evil is in control.

By the way, I am not in the habit of growling in the bedroom.

Apparently my protection system malfunctions, because I am a sleep walker/talker. I am sure most of it is related to my condition. I have started cutting the grass in my sleep, woken up in the woods with no recollection of where I was in my underwear, punched and kicked holes in the wall, ect.

The news covered the story of the congressman who blamed Ambien for running through the police barricade. The story prompted my dad to recall a story of when I was 8 or 9, and he heard me walk outside at 2:30 in the morning. He followed me as I walked around the house then to the woods behind my house then back into the house where I laid back down beside the fireplace.

I still do similar stuff. Everyone I have been roommates with gets a trip out of it. I can't count how many times I have heard, "Dude! Do you know what you did last night?"

wow and I thought I was the only one with this problem. I swear I thought something was trying to possess me because I couldn't even open my eyes or yell. I wake up roaring. Now I'm looking to order
Clonazepam and havent seen it on anyones inventory I use and dont know about these random overseas sites online. PM me if you got a link.

I agree they can be very frightening. They started when I was 12 and I was so scared I began to pray. I don't know about you guys but I definitely sensed a malignant force. One time I felt an evil presence he/she was stretching my penis up and down.

I had a year or two where this went on randomly once a month sometimes more and scare me it was when I was younger around 19 or 20 (never touched any substances completely healthy when this was going on wasn't seeing shit from drugs). I felt a presence around me one time I saw shadow figures in the hall way and looked like they were plotting. I tried to yell but my voice felt crippled too and I couldnt move... some of the scariest shit I've ever felt around me. I was screaming at a muffled volume and it looked like the shadows looked at me and dissapeared.

Dead Sober and awake, asked am I dreaming ? and yes I was fully conscious. after that incident it never happened again was the worst episode

Perhaps you felt an evil presence, but are you certain it was not of your own creation?

Your experience is very similar to many accounts I have heard and read about.

The hypnogenic "body asleep, mind awake" state is not one commonly experienced, or perhaps remembered. This creates a sort of unknown territory that one can easily be afraid of. Not only that, but hypnogenic awareness is a very acute awareness because there is no physical stimulus you are responding too, everything is mental, and therefore your state of mind can have an extraordinary effect on what you experience during that state.

If you are already afraid, or become afraid, your hypnogenic experience may become one of terror. If you are calm and relaxed, it can be an experience of thrilling wonder.

There is so much negative taboo and ignorance about altered states of perceptions that I find it plausible that "regular" people naturally resist such experiences and therefore find themselves creating their own horror.

Again, I am not saying I know what you experienced, but I have had similar experiences I and know what the power of expectation can create. It isn't unlike hearing strange things in the dark and letting your imagination fill in the spaces, expect it is all much realer as your imagination is allowed to flourish in hypnogenic states.

It is also surprising what unconscious energies may come to surface in such an aware mental state. Everything is real, but you can also create that reality.

Hypnogenic states are completely normal and experiencing them is not an indicator of a drug side-effect or poor mental health.

Sorry to hear you had a rough experience, how long ago was it when you were 19-20?

i had that shit once. very scary experience i wake up to a loud unclear voice, but it was LOUD & they definitely were not happy. i open my eyes, i look to my right, & i see my brother crawling on my walls like a fucking demon. while i was scared shitless, i couldn't move so i started praying. I see a man in white, he puts his arm over me & i wake up. fucked up shit thats fosho.. & the REAL fucked up thing was when I wake up i was facing the same direction i was looking @ when i had the experience & EVERYTHING was in the same place it was in my dream ..

& i wish that was made up..

^^ damn! all this sounds interesting and really crazy at the same time, I think I experienced something similar years ago in my teenage years, but still to this day I dont know what it was, but all I know the feeling that came over me was enough to keep me from ever going back to that room in my parents house, still to this day when I visit, I dont go in that room.
