It's obvious to me you'd lose the oily Omega-3 rich fatty content of salmon by smoking it, but that aside would any of you recommend smoked salmon as a healthy protein rich snack?

Of course I'm referring to just eating it by itself, home made style with no sodium rich marinades or anything. Does anyone here have it as a regular part of their diet who can attest to it?

How do you think you'd lose the n3's. I say eat away..........

I just see the oils getting evaporated out, I mean the stuff is totally solid I can't see how there could be an unsaturated form of fat still in it.

Yeah I'm just gonna eat it haha.

Only smoked salmon I have had is still soft and tender

I smoke salmon all the time. I also smoke steelhead and trout. When you smoke salmon you do it at 200 degrees or less. The oil isn't going anywhere at those temps. For me it is free protein that I can take to work etc. I love to fish. : )

Whenever I have spoked salmon at parties when my aunt caters its tastes raw, silky and tasted smoky, I've never had solid smoked salmon. But I'd of thought you had to eat alot of smoked salmon to get enough protein as it isnt exactly cheap.

Well I'm talking about the stuff you get at stores in the vacuum sealed packets. It's pretty dry and tough. Tastes great though it's like salmon jerky almost... well not THAT hard though.

Cheese and Beer anyone?

I'd be willing to bet that salmon is just as good and the n3's are in tact.

The image may be screwy, but it looks like the seasoning is IN the salmon. If thats the case then you have some kind of McSalmon looking food product of questionable origin. Never know what's in there. If it's un-processed, dried, seasoned salmon then you're in good shape.

Nah that's what it looks like when my dad used to make it, the image is a bit fuzzy it's not actually buried in there.
