i think i did it while i was doing wide grip upright rows a few weeks back. It just flared up within the last week. it hurts when i push doors open, like a sharp pain. I couldn't do lateral shoulder raises tonight, could do reverse shoulder without pain and fought through the pain while doing dumbell military presses. When i did chest earlier in the week i had to be very careful and deliberate when doing flat bench and had pain when doing incline dumbells.

should i rest completely except for legs, back, abs, cardio for a while? if so, how long?

i would rest that shoulder. even doing back might give it some trouble. legs, cardio, and abs are fine sure. as far as treatment for the shoulder...i'm not a doctor so can't really help ya, but i'm sure some rest will be helpful.

sounds like text book rotator cuff injury.

any clicking when you do arm circles or arm swings?

take it easy

there is a saying: 'if u exercise with pain, u have no brain'

obviously this isn't refering to your last reps on an exercise, but u shouldn't fight through the pain

nah there's no clicking or anything, but there's a definate slot i have to be in to do say bench otherwise it's painful....how long should i rest for?

STOP NOW! the exact same thing happened to me...i took upright rows out of my exercise....i took 3 months off (it was like 3 months on and off lifting). I would say stop for atleast 2 weeks and see how u feel. Get it checked.

Cheese, if I learned anything in the gym it is ALWAYS warm up before lifting. I rarely stretched in between and before workouts. From the time I was 19-22 I lifted with significant pain in my shoulders. I thought taking time off would cure it, but I'd go as longs as school summers off and come back with the same pain. It seemed to be most prevalent during chest (flat bench) and shoulder workouts. Finally I decided to go to the doctor and I had my left shoulder scoped which they found bone spurs and an impingement. After going to PT and learning a lot of stretching and strenghting routines my left shoulder is 10x stronger than it ever was. I've since applied those same techniques to my right shoulder and I rarely have problems with it. If you don't want to end up under the knife or with any long term problems take the time to get your shoulder right!

How long were you out for? I might need this ( i have some clicking in my shoulder) and need to know how long down time will be.

Rip,

Well before the surgery I took some time off since it was ultimately coming. Post surgery it took me a solid 3 months to get back in the gym lifting arms and legs. I was too afraid to get back into the push and pulling exercises. Another 2 weeks after I started benching again (and I mean the bar to start with)! Then it proceeded to quarters and then a plate, etc. After all said and done in 5-6 months I was probaby back to full strength. I never thought I'd get back to lifting big weights, but I'm stronger than ever so. Get your shoulder right!

Good Luck
