almost 3 years ago when i got back into training after a lengthy layoff of several years, i over consumed myself with sets, reps, exercises, training split, time of day, micros, macros, and every little possible detail imaginable.......

I see many newbies as well as people who've been around for a while doing the same thing and it really annoys me because i know what they're thinking and possibly holding them back......

I posted my training program on a different board and got many responses....but this response from IFBB pro Phil Hernon that really struck hard with me and set me straight.......I asked what was wrong with my routine and here's the response:

" No OFFENSE here, but
1. The exercise choices
2. The body part grouping
3. The obsession with the numbers ( reps, sets)
4. Frequency
5. Exercise performance/elbow placement"

Basically by micromanaging my training I was OCD and really holding myself back.......lesson here is don't get stuck in a routine (because it will become routine)......have a GENERAL OUTLINE and make small changes often based on progress and how you feel........

Yup that's pretty good advice. Especially if you're just starting back you don't need to put that much thought into your routine.

You gotta go with what feels right!
