Internet Smellovision by 2012?


A South Korean thinktank has put out its latest prognostication paper, imagining that mobile phone batteries will last two months between charges by 2012, robots would do routine surgery by 2018, rich armies would deploy invisibility armor by 2015 (!) and, best of all, the internet will be used to deliver smell data by 2015.

This revolution will require fragrance-producing technology to be installed, of course. A likely story! Though, if it came as a USB dongle, I'd buy one today. Wouldn't reliability in such a scheme require a nice, fixed smellovision protocol? The future of Scent-Hinting Internet Teleprojection devices is upon us. Bonus: The BBC, unable to find a decent photograph to illustrate their story, simply put up an image of a bunch of kids playing WoW in a Korean cybercafe.
