I am pretty certain I have a good grasp on the training part of the whole fitness thing (as much as I would ever use anyway) but I'm still looking for answers in the nutrition part of it.
Currently I eat dinner an hour to 1-1/2 hours before I lift, it usually is a full course meal, lean meat, vegetable and rice or potatoes in some form. After training I have my post w/o shake and nothing else the rest of the night (its 8pm by this time). Is this practice maximizing my efforts? because I was thinking of eating maybe a bagel with coffee for carbs and energy an hour before I lift, have my post w/o shake and eat my full dinner about an hour after my post w/o shake ( which would be about 9pm) and then I would hit the sack at 11pm.Which would be a better choice? .....Thanks Mike

Greetings Mike, I would go with option 2, if that pre workout snack was a low GI type and had enough umph in it to get you through a good workout.

My reasoning is the time between your last feeding of the day and when you break fast in the morning. (Is your body going to be feeding on itself before you get it out of bed and feed it again.) Is it going to be 10 - 12 hrs later??? (between last meal and breakfast)

Also whether or not you're trying to lose, maintain, or gain weight would make a big difference in the whole shootin match. For myself (bulking) I try to make sure I've eaten before bed. Some of the real Gung-Ho individuals will get up in the middle of the night for some more substance. I'm too lazy for that one. :)

So after all this going on..... I would say it matters what your goals are.

I like choice # 2 better, however, the first choice is ok too, except that I would maybe have another shake before bed. If you do have a shake before bed make it a blended protein rather than just whey...or you could just have a food protein as well.
