I went to a Chiropractor today and you know what she told me: Don't do squats or deadlifts because they will compress your spine and back in the long term! I'm thinking about stopping. What do you think?

I agree, you should stop, that way i'll always be bigger than you.

Seriously though, she's right but I think if done with proper foarm, you shouldn't have any long term effects from doing those two movements other than putting on some muscle.

Why the hell did she say that?

That is rediculous in my opinion. Yes, any type of weight lifting puts pressure on the spine, but it also strengthens the back muscles which may be more important long term than disk compression.

Anyway, as long as you're using weight you can handle, the disk compression is not going to have any negative effects.

I honestly cannot believe she said that. :rolleyes:

She even brought in a R.M.T. to support her position during my visit!

R.M.T. = Registered Massage Therapist

LMAO

Well, if a RMT agreed, then i believe it.! :evil:

Seriously though, as long as your using a "reasonable" amount of weight, I do not see any problems with disk compression doing squats and deadlifts.

These "experts" obviously do not know much about weight training/bodybuilding.

total bull, every day your spine is compresed you know you are shorter at night than in the morning. also this is the same reason old people are shorter than they were when they were younger. my point is spinal compresion is enevitable and as longer as your not abuseing your back by not streching and using proper form during squats, you'll be fine

Muscle building aside, loading the spine via squats would actually help you in the long run. You're increasing your bone density and making your bones stronger, reducing your chances of gettong osteoporosis when older. I can't believe they said that either. I think you should get a new Dr. too :rolleyes:
