I've just recently switched from and ez bar to a straight one and I can still lift the same amount of weight however it seems a little more challenging with the straight bar how come? (I've always used an ez bar for the last few years) I felt it was slightly tougher with the straight bar so I racked the ez bar and I'm not going to use it for a while. Is there any greater bennefits to using one or the other over time or is it all going to produce the same results? Any replies will be apreciated.:thumb:

Maybe it's just me, but I actually prefer the straight bar over the ez curl bar. It just feels like I'm working harder

EXACTLY!:thumb: I totally agree with you I'm almost kicking myself in the ass for not ditching the EZ bar a while ago.

Ofcourse then I read a thread that Flex wrote biceps and now I have a complex!!?? hahaha!

Str8 bar is harder because you're targeting your biceps more directly. Cambered bar curls recruit brachialis to assist.

so then would a straight bar be more ideal for building or would the ez bar be being its utilizing more than just your bicep?

this seems like it could be a debated issue allready:laugh: but I'm looking to hear thoughts so let it roll...

I like the EZ bar better because it takes up less space(i work out on the patio with momies plants) and it doesnt hurt my wrists as much. IMO it works my biceps just as much as the straight bar. My experience was actually the opposite of yours, all i had was the straight bar at my house until i bought an EZ curl bar and i was able to concentrate more on the bicep because of less strain on the wrists and get longer or heavier more efficient workouts with my biceps and triceps.

Straight bar curls hurt my wrists. Sounds pussy, but I have extremely tight joints naturally, and that puts them in an uncomfortable position.

If there was an opposite to double jointed, I'd be it. I can't even sit Indian style, and it's not because of my muscles. My hips (and other joints) are just very tight.

In a nutshell, I like the EZ bar curls.

Straight bar defintly does work biceps more i say. EZ bar definetly works brachialis more i say.

I prefer the straight bar, but I'm just stubborn like that. I think it's the fact that it's called an EZ curl bar. It makes me think I'm cheating or something like that.

Wasn't the EZ bar developed for those who had wrist problems? I don't like the EZ bar all that much. Straight bar for me, enables me to get a better pump from the bicep belly at the elbow to my peak ( i do actually have surprisingly good form for curls), feeling the pump in entirety in both the inner and outer areas of the bicep. I can curl more weight with a straight bar too which is always the way forward! If I want to work the Brachi, i'll bang out some hammers or reverse curls.

It is the opposite for triceps though. The EZ bar for me is the best bar to use for skull crushers and seated extensions, again I can lift more with the straight bar, yet this time, I feel greater pumps and muscular working with the EZ bar. Weird.
Spose it's all down to personal preference.

thanks for the feed back I'm thinking I'll just change it up every other month along with exercises just to keep some variety.

i can cheat curl 200 on the ez-curl, but not on straight bar.

I think the bicep supinates forearm from neutral. So you biceps flexes when palms are up.

You should use the one that you like more. But don't use the one that you don't like as much because then you won't like it as much as the one that you like more. Therefore, you would be using something that you don't like as much as the thing you like more. This would cause you to be doing an exercise that may not be as likeable as another exercise, which may be liked more than that other one. So stick with the one you like.

Bring those elbows in as far as possible, while taking as wide a grip as you can. ;)

NEver saw that article I guess. Flex can you explain the reasoning for that position. Not arguing, I just always have heard that hands and elbows were in alignment for the curl, otherwise you could superficially use other muscles as stabilizers more than if in alignment. I'm just asking, not arguing.

My wrists cant possibly stand the straight bar...Theres even a "clicking" noise in my elbow when I use it..ez bar for me...Go ahead, call me a wuss!lol

Wuss! :p

You may also want to consider using a reverse-grip (palms face down) on the Curl bar for some added variation.

all due to biomechanics, my friend.

I've found that i'm built much differently (bone/muscle structure) than most people, so this is the only way that i feel my biceps competely. I see new growth now everytime their pumped.

In this particular case, some people have naturally wide frames, so even when their elbows are at their sides, they don't fully flex their bi's.

by basically trying to touch your elbows together in front of you, and grabbing a wide as grip as possible, it allows the biceps to work fully as well as take any shoulder help outta play.

i know its confusing, but so are my biomechanics. what i do know is that it works for me :thumb:

if u really wanted to..cudnt u do both BB and EZ curls in the same workout day??

yes, but I also do concentration curls and hammers on bi days, and I don't want to over train(I'm doing 3 sets for each exercise-9 sets all together, and my bis are cashed when i'm done) and I really don't want to do away with either of them I like conc. curls and hammers a lot.

If they win the may join the ranks of the greatest in history credit due to win/loss record:thumb: but they are still FAR from the best in history/all time.:finger:

And thats not a jab at the Pats thats a jab at all the teams, simply that there maybe 10% that actually play cause they love the game the other 90% play for the paycheck, it takes a natural heart to be the greatest not a purchased one;).

The straight also bothers my wrists but, I find that if don't put my thumb over the bar it kind of relieves the pressure on my wrists and allows me to use more weight. Would this deprive me of performing a "good" curl?

Peace:cool:
