Latest Star Trek 2 Villain Rumor, This Might Surprise You...

The sequel to J.J. Abrams Star Trek movie will reportedly have a different take on a classic villain and will also feature some iconic creatures who will be given a more threatening demeanor.

Source: Think McFly Think

Via Think McFly Think, here's the latest rumor about the Star Trek sequel.

The Klingons play a prominent role in Star Trek 2. The angle, according to our sources, plays up them up as a Nomadic sect of warrior aliens causing trouble for the Federation — think an intergalactic Taliban with their home-planet overrun by Tribbles. Yes, those Tribbles, here in the newly rebooted continuity viewed as "furry carnivorous creatures."

Again, take this rumor with salt at the ready. The source is the same site that reported that Warner Bros. has a shortlist of screenwriters for the sequel to the new Superman movie. Still, I'm not going to 100% write-off the site until we see how their Superman news shakes out. The site also reports that Kahn will definitely not be in the movie. If this pans out, are you satisfied with Klingons and Tribbles for the long-awaited sequel?

Untitled Star Trek Sequel Gets A Release Date; Will Be Shot In 3D

Untitled Star Trek Sequel Gets A Release Date; Will Be Shot In 3D

The currently untitled sequel to director J.J. Abrams' Star Trek has finally been given a release date and is also confirmed to be in 3D. Find out when you can expect to see the crew of the U S S Enterprise back on the big screen here.

Deadline exclusively reveal that Paramount has given the Star Trek sequel a release date of May 17, 2013. The reason for this sudden decision follows the news that Sony had moved Roland Emmerich's Singularity from that date to November 1, 2013 freeing up that particular weekend for the highly anticipated follow up from director J.J. Abrams. The site confirm that there is still no official title for the movie and reveal that it will be filmed in 3D. Each cast member will return and the sequel is being co-written by Abrams with Damon Lindelhof, plus Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci. Back in 2009, Star Trek was a big hit for the studio after it grossed $258M in North America and $130M internationally at the box office.

ROBOCOP Actor Peter Weller Joins The Cast of STAR TREK Sequel

ROBOCOP Actor Peter Weller Joins The Cast of STAR TREK Sequel

Another addition to the cast of J.J. Abrams' Star Trek sequel... It has been revealed that the RoboCop actor Peter Weller has joined the highly anticipated sequel. More after the jump...

15487083.png
According to Variety, Peter Weller, who is best known for playing RoboCop in 1987 film and its sequel, has been cast in J.J. Abrams' Star Trek sequel:

J.J. Abrams has tapped veteran thesp Peter Weller for the ensemble cast of Paramount's upcoming "Star Trek" sequel. Specifics of Weller's role are under wraps. His selection came on the heels of Abrams choosing Alice Eve as a character that's believed to be new.

The cast is quite big, with Benicio del Toro as Abrams' top choice to play the villain. Peter Weller was most recently seen in TV shows like Fringe, Dexter and Psych. The script for the Star Trek sequel was written by Damon Lindelof, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci.

Production is set to start in early 2012, for a May 17, 2013 release.

I should have known. It was JJ Abrams attempt to get this generation's Ricardo Montalban.

UPDATE: No Benicio Del Toro For STAR TREK Sequel, Further Reports Of Khan As The Villain

UPDATE: No Benicio Del Toro For STAR TREK Sequel, Further Reports Of Khan As The Villain

This will upset Trekkies, but Vulture report that the actor has passed on the role of the villain in JJ Abrams' upcoming sequel. They also report that despite the director's claims to the contrary, the villain is indeed Khan..
This is a real shame as Del Toro was one actor that we could all agree would be a great addition to this (any) cast. But unfortunately after initial talks a deal could not be reached. Vulture report..

khan.jpg

Sadly, there's one high-profile star whom Abrams didn't manage to beam up: Benicio Del Toro, who entered into talks last month to play the sequel's new villain. Insiders tell Vulture that the deal actually went asunder last Wednesday after parties couldn't come to terms over monetary issues.

Abrams has another couple of great cast additions in Alice Eve and Peter Weller but he will have to move fairly fast to secure a replacement for Del Toro who would have played the movie's villain. But which villain? After Latino Review claimed to have uncovered the bad guy's identity as Khan Noonian Singh, Abrams himself shot it down with a "not true". But it seems the director was just denying this until he was good and ready to reveal it himself as another reliable source has pegged Khan as the villain too..

Vulture hears from a highly placed source that Khan is indeed the film's baddie.

Expect this to be revealed officially one way or the other soon enough. In the mean time, assuming it is Khan, who do you guys think would be a worthy replacement for Del Toro?

Here is an update of sorts from the movie's co-producer Damon Lindelof via his Twitter account..

"VULTUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUURE!!!!!"

Take that to mean what you will, but I think it's fairly obvious. Khan is (un)officially the villain.

Edgar Ramirez Front-Runner To Replace Benicio Del Toro In STAR TREK 2; Jordi Molla Considered

Edgar Ramirez Front-Runner To Replace Benicio Del Toro In STAR TREK 2; Jordi Molla Considered

Talks broke down with Benicio del Toro for the lead villain role in Star Trek 2, and it now down to front-runner Edgar Ramirez (The Bourne Ultimatum) and Jordi Molla (Columbiana). Is one of them our new KHAAAAN?!
293718219.jpg

Variety has broken the news that director J.J. Abrams is already narrowing down his hunt for the lead villain in Star Trek 2, with their sources telling them that Edgar Ramirez is the front-runner and Jordi Molla is also being considered. At this point, no offers are said to have been made. While it's unlikely that American audiences will be familiar with Ramirez, he was at one point said to be up for the role of General Zod in Man of Steel. Molla has starred in such blockbuster fare as Columbiana and Knight and Day.

RUMOR: Main Villain in STAR TREK 2 Could Be Captain Kirk's Best Friend Gary Mitchell

RUMOR: Main Villain in STAR TREK 2 Could Be Captain Kirk's Best Friend Gary Mitchell

The website badassdigest.com is claiming that they have an inside source for JJ Abrams Star Trek 2, and says that a villain from the original television series will be in the film.

star%20trek%20sexy3.jpg

The Website badassdigest.com source wouldn't specifically say which villain will be featured in the film, but they do name five possible choices. And they say one of those five villains that were in the first season of the Star Trek television show will be the main baddie.

Just to keep track of all the rumors so far we have Latino Review claiming the main bad guy is Khan, then hours later JJ Abrams said Khan will not be in the movie. We also have cast member Simon Pegg saying that he has seen the script and claims that Khan wasn't not in it. While the most popular Brazilian fan site for Star trek reported that the villains would be Klingons. Of course with any rumor take it with a grain of salt.

I have an informant placed close to the production of JJ Abrams' Star Trek 2, and this informant got in touch with me to reveal that it looks like the storyline of the film has been decided. This person says that until the script is turned in anything could change.

Some sources give you all sorts of info, but this source likes to play games. I couldn???t get the exact character from them, but I got an email that reads:

It???s definitely a character that will make fans of TOS excited. Think along the lines of Harry Mudd or Trelane or Gary Mitchell or the Talosians or the Horta. Actually it???s one of those that I named.

gary%20icon5.jpg
Helmsman Mitchell and ship's psychiatrist Dr. Elizabeth Dehner are both knocked unconscious by the barrier's effect. When he awakens, Mitchell's eyes glow silver, and he begins to display remarkable psionics.

Mitchell becomes increasingly hostile toward the rest of the crew, declaring that he has become godlike, enforcing his desires with fearsome displays of telepathic and telekinetic. Science Officer Spock (Leonard Nimoy) comes to believe that Valiant crew members may have experienced the same phenomenon, and others must have destroyed the ship to keep the power from spreading. He advises Kirk that Mitchell may have to be killed before his powers develop further, but Kirk angrily disagrees. - Wikipedia

Harry Mudd - A human conman, rogue and trader/smuggler of the 23rd century who fled into galactic escapades to escape his shrewish wife Stella.

In 2366, James T. Kirk helped send Mudd to a rehab colony after he was caught using the illegal Venus drug to beautify three women he hoped to sell to miners on Ophiucus VI as brides.

Mudd's offenses at that time had included smuggling, transport of stolen goods, and purchase of a space vessel with counterfeit currency. - startrek.com

talosians%20icon.jpg
Talosians were once a technologically advanced culture but a nuclear holocaust left their planet virtually uninhabitable and killed most of the species. The survivors of the nuclear war congregated in underground dwellings, where they became dependent on their mental ability to create stunningly real illusions, an ability that had been developed by their ancestors. As their mental powers grew, they lost the ability to use the technology left behind by their ancestors. The Talosians found that life using illusion was addictive, almost like a Human developing a physical and psychological dependence on narcotics. They became bored with the content of the illusions which they had. Their dependence upon these illusions for mental stimuli caused the Talosians to begin capturing space travelers to use as the living basis for their illusions.- en.memory-alpha.org

While Trelane has great powers, he has little self-control and is spoiled, willful and impetuous. When McCoy and Jaeger appear, Trelane invites them all to join him at his party.- startrek.com

Captain Pike to Return for STAR TREK 2

Captain Pike to Return for STAR TREK 2

One of the screewriters, Bob Orci, sent out a spoiler alert that role of Captain Christopher Pike has been written into the script. But, will the actor Bruce Greenwood return for the much anticipated sequel?
bruce-greenwood.jpg

During a coversation with TrekMovie.com, co-screenwriter of the Star Trek sequel let one spoiler slip past his lips. He informed the site that Bruce Greenwood's character, Captain Christopher Pike has been written into the script. Now, one of the interesting things is that Greenwood didn't not have an option in his contract for the sequel and it would require the actor signing back on to make it work. According to TrekMovie.com the actor has previously said in the past few years that he would be open to returning.

It's safe to assume that Bruce Greenwood will sign on for the sequel, but instead of being Captain, he'll be an Admirl. Which is the rank he was given at the conclusion of JJ Abrams first Star Trek.

Commenting here at TrekMovie.com yesterday, Star Trek sequel co-writer/producer Roberto Orci let a little sequel tidbit out of the bag with this comment:

Bob Orci: Spoiler alert! We wrote a part for Greenwood. Let us hope he says “Yes!”

J.J. Abrams Discusses The Altered Timeline Of His STAR TREK Movies

Abrams on why he ultimately decided to direct the 2009 film:

ABRAMS: "The reason I wanted to direct it was because I thought, "When in the world, ever, am I going to get a chance to do a space movie? That’s cool." And I really loved the script that Alex (Kurtzman) and Bob (Orci) wrote, and I thought, "There is a version of this movie that is sort of surprisingly intimate and emotional and about these two men who are kind of displaced and who are both orphans in a weird way and they find a family." And I thought, "That is kind of a cool story. It happens to be called Star Trek. It happens to be Kirk and Spock, but cool." Casting that movie was tough, but it was a crazy joy to find that amazing cast. So, the whole experience was sort of bizarre, in working on something that I never in a million years I thought I’d be associated with, doing it with people that I would have loved to have worked with in any capacity, and getting to do things, cliché things, that feel like as a kid filmmaker you want to do… spaceships flying, huge things crashing and planets exploding, stuff that you’d only dream of doing. So it ended up being, oddly, of all things, a dream project."

Abrams on the alternate time line:

ABRAMS: "Here’s the thing… I think the key to that was, first of all, it was one of those things that not everyone even cares about or understands the timeline of it all. The notion that when this one character, Nero, arrives in his ship, that basically the timeline is altered at that moment, so everything forward is essentially an alternative timeline. That is not to say that everything that happened in The Original Series doesn’t exist. I think, as a fan of movies and shows, if someone told me the beloved thing for me was gone, I would be upset. But we didn’t do that. We’re not saying that what happened in that original series wasn’t good, true, valid, righteous and real. Let people embrace that. We’re not rejecting that. That, to me, would have been the big mistake. We’re simply saying that, "At this moment, the very first scene in the first movie, everything that people knew of Star Trek splits off into now another timeline."

‘Star Trek’ Sequel Hires Hot British Actor – Deadline.com

EXCLUSIVE: Here’s another update on writer/director J.J. Abrams’ much anticipated Star Trek sequel — which is really No. 12 among the Captain Kirk/Mr Spock star fleet movies – coming out on May 17, 2013 from Paramount. I’ve learned that hot British film actor Benedict Cumberbatch has been cast in a lead role in the film. No word yet on whether he’ll be a hero or villain. But Cumberbatch landed some sought-after roles recently in War Horse (as ’Major Stewart’) and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (‘Peter Guillam’). He will also portray ‘Smaug the Dragon’ through motion capture and voice the ‘Necromancer’ in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Hobbit: There And Back Again. The 35-year-old London-born thesp is a veteran of both theatre and TV, most notably as ‘Sherlock Holmes’ in the 2010 modern BBC adaptation series Sherlock). He also starred as ‘Stephen Hawking’ in 2004′s Hawking and received a nomination for the BAFTA TV Award for Best Actor and won the Golden Nymph for Television Films – Best Performance by an Actor. The British GQ magazine named him “Actor of the Year 2011″. Cumberbatch is repped by UTA and UK-based Conway van Gelder Grant LTD. The Star Trek sequel is being co-written by Abrams with Lost’s Damon Lindelof, plus Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci. JJ is going to be making the movie in 3D. The first of Abram’s rebooted franchise opened May 8, 2009 for a $79M weekend and ultimate did $258M in North America and $130M international at the box office. The pic is being produced by all those writers and Bryan Burk, who is JJ’s Bad Robot production partner. It is anticipated that David Ellison’s Skydance will be co-financing the film with Paramount. All key cast members will be returning, like Chris Pine and Zach Quinto and Zoe Saldana.

DR WHO's Noel Clarke Joins STAR TREK Sequel

The talented British actor/director has joined the cast of J.J Abram's Sci-fi sequel in an undisclosed role, but we do have some details on the type of character he will play.. Mark "RorMachine" Cassidy - 1/4/2012

Fans of the BBC Doctor Who series will be familiar with Noel Clarke who has had a recurring role in the show since the very first episode. He has also appeared in Neil Marshal's Centurion and the heist flick 4.3.2.1. Clarke also starred and co-wrote the critically acclaimed Kidulthood and went on to star and direct it's follow up Adulthood - both well worth checking out if you haven't seen em.

clarktrek.jpg

Anyway, Variety report that Clarke's next acting job will be a big one as he has been cast in J.J Abram's Star Trek sequel..

While the details of Clarke's role are being kept under wraps, he will play a family man with a wife and young daughter.

Not too much to go on but I'm sure more details will slip through soon enough. Clarke joins newcomers Alice Eve and Peter Weller who's roles also remain a mystery for now. The part of Kha..err, "the villain" was offered to Benecio Del Toro but he turned it down. Paramount have yet to find a replacement.

The as yet untitled sequel (it won't be "Star Trek 2") is set for release May 17, 2013.

Joseph Gatt Joins The Cast Of STAR TREK Sequel

Joseph Gatt Joins The Cast Of STAR TREK Sequel

More casting news for J.J Abrams' Sc-fi sequel. This time it's genre mainstay Gatt, who we last saw in Marvel's Thor.. Mark "RorMachine" Cassidy - 1/9/2012

Abrams and co are set to shoot the sequel to Star Trek this week, and thanks to Screenrant we have a bit of late casting news. Joining fellow Trek newcomers Benedict Cumberbatch, Alice Eve, Noel Clarke, Nazneen Contractor and Peter Weller is the distinctive looking Joseph Gatt..

thor-joseph-gatt.jpg

Although we have confirmation that Gatt is in Star Trek 2, we have no information as to which character he may be playing. With his background in voice acting (Star Wars: The Old Republic) and motion-capture work (God of War series) in addition to his resume of filmwork, he could be playing anything from an alien with physical prowess to a henchman of Benedict Cumberbatch???s character.

I would assume the same thing. I think it's unlikely Gatt will not be playing some type of bruiser in the movie. As was mentioned above, Gatt is probably best known among gamers as providing the mo-cap for Kratos in the God Of War series. He was also set to play the muscle bound bad guy John O'Quinn in the cancelled Wonder Woman Tv series.

Alice Eve On Being Cast In STAR TREK Sequel, Hopes To Satisfy The "Fanatics"

Alice Eve On Being Cast In STAR TREK Sequel, Hopes To Satisfy The "Fanatics"

52591.jpg
The smoking hot actress chats to MTV about being cast in J.J Abrams' upcoming Sci-fi sequel and working once again with Benedict Cumberbatch, without revealing too many details about the role she will play..obviously! Mark "RorMachine" Cassidy - 1/10/2012

Alice Eve is one of quite a few British actors to sign up to join the cast of J.J Abrams' Star Trek sequel. Another is Benedict Cumberbatch, who Eve worked with in the 2006 movie Starter For 10. In an interview with MTV she talks about working with him again on a very different type of movie..

evetrek.jpg

"I'm very excited to work with him again. He's so very funny, Ben. I don't know if you remember his character in 'Starter for 10,' but he was so funny. Like King of the Geeks, but he did it so well, and I found a lot of that hard to get through because he was so funny. I like him very much."

You get the impression she thinks he's funny? Anyway, nothing is really known about the role Eve - who was in the running to play Emma Frost in X-Men: First Class - will play in the Star Trek sequel, and she certainly isn't dropping any hints. But she does talk about the feeling of joining such a tight knit cast, and seems determined not to let any fans down..

When there's a group of people who you can spend time with and work with and get to know, a real good experience, it's kind of like going back to university or something, when everyone has got the same objective. There's a lot of energy, and it's a nice thing to be a part of that group. That's the thing that excites me most about it. Obviously, there is a huge legacy there with 'Star Trek' and the fanatics, so hopefully they'll be satisfied."

"I feel incredibly lucky. I would say it's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. It's not once-in-a-lifetime, but it is rare. It's one of life's great pleasures to enjoy the group you work with, because we all know what it's like when you don't."

Hopefully some actual details about who all of these newcomers are playing will filter through soon. Alice Eve can be seen next in The Raven, followed by Men In Black 3.

STAR TREK Sequel Has Begun Shooting; Plus Some Production Updates

Filming for the Star Trek sequel is underway and not only will there be new sets but the Engineering section is getting an upgrade. Check it out here courtesy of TrekMovie. 6of13 - 1/13/2012

40197L.jpg

Although pre-production started at ILM in late 2011, JJ Abrams began shooting his sequel to 2009’s Star Trek yesterday. Shooting will take place at Sony Studios in Culver City as well as at the Paramount lot in Hollywood. This will be the first time that a Trek movie will make use of non-Paramount lots. New sets will also feature parts of the Enterprise not seen in the 2009 movie.

Robero Orci, sequel co-writer and producer, took to the comments section over at TrekMovie where he not only confirmed that filming had started but gave up some refreshing news regarding Engineering (which was actually a Budweiser plant in the 2009 film).

"I’ll tell you this. There are some cool improvements to engine room!"

40323L.jpg

TrekMovie also report that Hawaii will not be used as a filming location. It was previously stated that Hawaii would serve as a location for “alien jungle” scenes, but apparently a place in Southern California was chosen instead.

Shooting is expected to wrap in May this year.

VIDEO: See Zachary Quinto & Benedict Cumberbatch's Fight Scene From STAR TREK 2

As is noted by the slightly annoying voice in the vid, Cumberbatch's character is pretty much giving ol Spock an ass whooping here, and since Vulcans are considerably more powerful than humans it would seem to suggest that whoever Cumberbatch is playing is not a normal human. He doesn't LOOK like Khan - or at least the previous incarnation of the character - so who could he be?

The new kirk is annoying

OMG I can't WAIT for the new sequel! I thought the new 09 reboot was awesome, everything about it. The cast was great and the story was genius, cuz now they have full range for brand new adventures without trying to work around all that came before. I saw it in the theaters twice and have watched the dvd multiple times, much to the annoyance of my fiance LOL. I'm 33 and in the 80's growing up my dad had me watching the original series all the time, plus of course the movies. I'm not a diehard trekkie fan so I really enjoyed the reboot, couldn't have been better. Will be there opening weekend for the new one fo sho!

First though comes the Avengers this weekend, and DAMN am I PUMPED for that!

Awww.

Leonard Nimoy NOT in Star Trek sequel

Turns out that rumor about Leonard Nimoy appearing in the Star Trek sequel while wearing "stately robes" has finally been laid to rest, as the man who portrayed Spock-PRIME has just finally debunked the long-standing rumor of his involvement with the film-

"I visited the set one day and that started some speculation about whether I was doing the film. It's all speculation," he recently told StarTrek.com. "I talk to these people regularly. Zachary Quinto and I have dinner whenever we can. We just had dinner three or four weeks ago. I talk to J.J. about family."

leonard-nimoy-spock-star-trek-2.jpg

Mr. Nimoy had in fact visited the set for a very specific reason and that was...

"I visited the set one day because I had never seen the bridge. When I was in the last film, none of my work was on the bridge of the Enterprise. So I wanted to see the bridge, and the bridge was extraordinary."

So there ya have it folks, NO Nimoy in the Star Trek sequel. Want further proof?

~Speaking to another site, Collider, about his rumored involvement in the untitled Star Trek sequel, the veteran thesp said, "Well, my feeling is that they don't need me. They've got a wonderful cast. Zachary Quinto has taken on the character of Spock, and I think he is wonderfully suited."

Here is the link in case anyone wishes to follow the story.

Leonard Nimoy Dismisses Rumors He Will Return as Old Spock in 'Star Trek 2'

But the rumor of Nimoy playing Spock while wearing "stately robes" debuted alongside the rumor of Benedict Cumberbatch playing a certain baddie- Khan. So is it possible that like the Leonard Nimoy rumor being total smoke and mirrors, that too shall the Cumberbatch as Khan rumors be nothing but a bunch of nonsense? We shall wait and see.
