Ive just bought a new steamer one that goes on the hob rather than plug into the electric, how long should I steam green beans/ broccoli etc for?

Until they are crisp and bright green still. Don't overcook your veggies.

wel I cooked them for 10 mins and they still crisp. We used to own an electric one and the water when you cleaned it was green, cus my nan doesnt like her veg firm, and if it is she wont eat it

lol, of course you are from England.

10 minutes is too long for brocolli.

Like Jodi said BRIGHT GREEN not olive or darker green, that means the vit C is gone.

You can take bits out and bite them for crispiness till you get used to 'the look' of the veg.

Actually cooked green beans, some pieces are bright green others are dark green, but the bits I tried are crispy.

Steaming is okay but eating your veggies raw is otpimum.
Of course I steam my sweet potatoes, yams and potatoes but most everything else I just eat raw. Also, a great way to get your veggies is to buy a juicer and juice. My juicer was the best invesment I ever made. Also, sprouting is a great way to get more 'live' food into your diet. It's so easy to do.

bakerboy- do you have any juicing recipes? For vegetables? that taste decent? that would be amazing!
