It'd be a little easier to come back from if he was a finesse pitcher. Tougher for a hard thrower like him though.

Very unfortunate. He is a lot of fun to watch. I agree with you Bio-Chem-I feel bad for him, too. Hope he is able to come back and have a great career.

I was listening to Smoltz during the TBS game last night, and he said the same thing. He talked about how his slider evolved after he had the surgery. Interesting that Tommy John pitched for 11 years after surgery. Hope he is able to evolve as a pitcher and still be effective. You guys are right though, I think it is really tough for a power pitcher to recover from this.

Yep it all comes down to elbow position while he his throwing.

His style of throwing puts a lot of stress on the elbow. That will be difficult to change, as he has thrown like that since he was a kid.

Yep... a lot of pitchers recover to pitch at there old calibre again. The problem lies with his mechanics.

I remember some talk about how people in the game predicted he would have trouble long term due to problems with his mechanics. Unfortunately, it looks like they were right.
