I use to do super heavy barbell and dumbell curls for biceps. Everytime I noticed that I would have odd pains in my lower bicep tendons and forearms. I was even dumb enought to use straps to hold on to the bar. This was madness. In pursuit of bigger biceps I reasoned that curling wieght that I couldnt truly control would make them larger. It got to the point where I couldnt even do a set of lat puldowns because my biceps where so sore.
So, I took a rest and dropped the wieght dramaticaly. I consciously keep my elbows down and back. Then I just curl the dumbell up to where it comes to a stop then down. I am not a big fan barbell curls either. Because I believe the stronger bicep takes over. I believe most people are better off using dumbells. My my current routine is
3-4 sets of seated alternating dumbells curls as strict as possible
2 sets of seated dumbell hammer curls same form.
I love the pump I get on these two.
I firmly believe you have got to take the delt out of the movement as much as you can. I get a kick out of these guys swinging and yelling while doing buddy barbell curls. It is so counter productive. The bicep is a small muscle like the rear delts treat it with respect
