Didnt know where to put this. What dose everyone do for a tan?

Lay by the pool.:) Actually at my gym they have tanning beds,Since spring is coming I like to get a jumpstart on my tan

fake n bake until the summer....then the pool if we have time.

Tanning bed.

I nap in the tanning bed! Cant get a real one in the snow!

No tanning for me. Tanning is bad.

I do a tanning bed early spring to make it look like im actually naturally dark  In the summer I already have a decent if not good looking base tan to work off of so I can lay out by the pool (if I have time) and not worry about blinding people with my white ass.

Tanning bed before comps

I don't have a lot of time to spend laying in the sun.

tanning bed...then some pool time when it is nice enough out...then pro tan for competition

It's amazing that all you so-called health nuts expose your skin to that stuff. Sure I get sunlight being outdoors, but I certainly do not go out of my way to get extra sun.

I guess!! :D

Personally, I find a natural skin tone much more attractive than a leathery tan, but that's just me.

Sorry to be a killjoy on your tanning thread, peoples. Go back to aging your skin... :p

Actually, if you don't over do it, it can be healthy.

Holmes, that's like saying smoking in moderation can be healthy.

Visit the American Acedemy of Dermatology's website and search for "tanning." I trust them about a thousand times more than I trust a pro-tanning website.

Some highlights from their articles.

But isn't getting some sun good for your health?

People sometimes associate a suntan with good health and vitality. In fact, just a small amount of sunlight is needed for the body to manufacture vitamin D. It doesn't take much sunlight to make all the vitamin D you can use - certainly far less than it takes to get a suntan!

Are people actually being harmed by sunlight?
Yes. The number of skin cancer cases has been rising over the years, and experts say that this is due to increasing exposure to UV radiation from the sun, tanning beds, and sun lamps. More than 1.3 million new skin cancer cases are likely to be diagnosed in the U.S. this year.

No person or facility should advertise the use of any UVA or UVB tanning device using wording such as "safe," "safe tanning," "no harmful rays," "no adverse effect," or similar wording or concepts.
"There is no such thing as a safe tan," said Dr. Sekula-Gibbs. "A tan is the skin???s response to an injury and every time you tan you accumulate damage to the skin, as well as accelerate the aging process and increase your risk for skin cancer. As long as indoor tanning for cosmetic effects is permitted in this country, there needs to be increased educational efforts informing the public of the risks of this type of tanning"

Bad, bad, bad.

If you want to tan yourself, that's fine. More power to ya. But people need to realize it's not healthy.

Is the Sun Good or Bad?

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,8122-851738,00.html
Dr Michael Hollick, the man who discovered the active form of vitamin D, cautions that the West is facing an epidemic of vitamin D deficiency, and says that the only way to boost levels is to increase exposure to sunlight. Vitamin D deficiency is implicated in breast cancer, colon cancer, heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes (The Times (subscription), UK).

Anywho, this could be turned into a Google warring grounds. One thing I believe, is that you dont know who to believe, pick a side based on whatever but there are always going to be top scientists at each others throats.

Male and female fellatio have been linked to mouth cancers now, and male ejactulation has been linked to a lowered risk of prostate cancer, and sex in general is said to be linked to healthier happier lifestyles.

By the way, water can kill you.

so you're suggesting people engage in sex in tanning beds without drinking any water. got it! ;) :thumb:

You all want to sit in the sun or tanning bed and look like a friggin baseball mitt, go right ahead. :)

BTW, of course the tanning salon industry is going to fight the skin cancer scare!

Yep and the dermatoligists fight them because they make money off sunscreen.

Well regardless, anybody know any good sunless tanners to use (NOT for competition) I've tried neutrogena, it barely showed and didnt look natural.. I've heard bain de soleil (sp?) is good but I've never tried, also heard the more expensive brands (lancome, clinique) are good... Anybody know?

i've been hearing more and more good things about Mystic Tans. you go to a tanning place but they're basically a spray on tan - no uva/uvb exposure at all and i'm told they look great.

anyone tried them?

I used Mystic Tans. Great results but it started to look bad because it faded faster in certain spots!
