One thing keeps me at bay. Hairloss!
I have heard enough stories about deca causing libido problems during and long after cycle so no way.

Testosterone has to be the best thing out there. Test by itself is not to blame for hairloss, but the conversion to DHT is. DHT is an estrogen blocker which helps control gyno and bloat. DHT is a good thing for bodybuilding.

How long does it take for DHT in the scalp to kill a hair follicle? If one runs short cycles (less than 10 weeks at 400-500mgs/wk) once a year can the follicle return to normal afterwards with the use of anti-androgens like propecia or nizoral? Can the follicle ever return to normal by itself, or does DHT bind permanetly to the follicle gradually accumulating and killing it?

DHT is thought to be approximately 30 times more potent than testosterone because of increased affinity for the androgen receptor. It also forms estrogen quite easily. I have read that it helps bloat, but I don't think it is an estrogen blocker. Dht can help muscle gains, but there are side effects like BPH and prostate cancer. If you are worried about hair loss take something like Finasteride or Dutasteride. I would worry about the other side effects before I would hair losss. I would not use them because DHT increases free levels of testosterone and is a very potent androgen. In other words, you are shorting yourself of some gains you could make by using them.

Well said, dg. Dutasteride is great for keeping DHT levels down. You just have to decide if that is really want you want you to. DHT is what makes men men.

Are we talking about loosing 3 lbs out of a 20 lb potential mass gain by taking propecia? Does not seem that significant considering hair loss would be prevented.
A good idea would be to find out the dosage of propecia required to keep the dht levels the same as before cycle. I remember reading an article stating 1 pill a day for every 500mgs/ week of test. I am doing ok with nizoral shampoo alone, actually it works better than propecia for me. I don't use propecia now because of potential effects on performance.
If someone in my situation could keep dht levels normal through the cycle then discontinue propecia a month after cycle there should be no abnormal hairloss......in theory. At the same time there is enough dht in the system to do it's thing. But I just made that theory up! Where am I wrong?

No way to tell. Gains are going to be different for everyone, depending on training and diet. The rate of aromatization of testosterone is also different depending on body fat levels. So there is no way to tell how much DHT will be in you body at any given dose that I know of. Even if you knew, I don't think there are any studies that show you have to take X amount of whatever to counteract DHT. I've seen where they speculate that test converts into DHT at best 5%.
Bottom line, if you are worried about hair loss, use something to block the dht.

For me, by the time I see any other kind of side effects, I notice increased shedding from test. Low doses of finasteride didn't do much for me. I suspect a higher dose would.

When I start any cycle, I keep the following on hand.

Azaleic Acid (Topical DHT blocker)
Finasteride (or duta)
Minoxidil (for regrowth)
Spironolactone (best hairloss supplement for me! purported to block dht and all sorts of derivatives)

I still have hair. If I could have changed something, I would have started using these earlier and used them as prophylactic measures. I'd probably still have a full head of hair, rather than a full but thinner head.
