So I've been lifting for about 18 years...not a pro or anything but not all that weak either...6ft, 235lbs, my max is 365lbs (3-4 reps)
My buddy is around 5'8", 220lbs...and his max bench is around 275lbs (3-4 bad form reps)
So after an exhausting bench session, we hop over to the incline DBP (My gym only goes up to 100lbs)...he tells me he notices he can keep up with me on the DBP...so I ask him how does he figure? He tells me he's able to bang out more reps than me once we get to the 100lb DB's...
So I tell him I'm fckn exhausted after the intense bench press...lifting almost 90lbs more.
I also mentioned that I noticed his form is a little sloppy, he doesn't bring the bar down close enough to his chest (elbows never hit 90 degrees).
I never see a reason to brag and Im no critic but was just curious if anyone else has ever had this hilarious experience with a friend and how did you shut them up?

I've never really had a friend who has tried to be competitive on the amount of weight lifted. Typically on compound lifts I can lift heavier than anyone around me, but when it comes to isolation exercises it's not too much more than what they would be lifting. Granted, I only lift enough weight to use proper form. Only when I was a kid was I worried about lifting more weight than the next guy. Tell him he needs to work on his form and stop worrying about what kind of weight you are lifting :)

When your spotting him yell "nope" with every failed rep. When the weight falls on his chest. Just walk from the bench and wish him good luck.

or

Let him set the weight and just out rep the cat. Consider it a change in routine. Who knows you may get a better pump with his weights. And you'll feel like an asshole for being an asshole about it!

Get a new training partner, this one is obviously worried about the wrong things and sooner or later you'll start to try to prove something to him that's completely unnecessary. Unless you enjoy the mano y mano that is.

Yes yes...love me some compounds!

Yea...Im gonna bust his chops and tell him to kiss my ass next time he needs me to spot him lmao

train alone. rest pause or drop set for intensity techniques. forced reps are a waste to me unless your training partner knows what he's doing which is rare to say the least in my experience.

I train alone...solves all the problems....

Ive always trained alone...Headphones:Music ON, World OFF nothing better...but always hated askin strangers for a spot....but he recently joined my gym since they opened up a new one in the area...

Same here. People fail to realize that its all about the movement, not the weight. Extension and flexion, stretch and contract with full range of motion. That's what builds quality symmetrical muscle. Not heavy lifts with sloppy form. It's body building not weight lifting. Unless you're into injuries and looking like the typical high school ass clown with imaginary lat syndrome. Lol.

Let me start off by saying that having a GOOD partner can take you to a whole new level but over the years I've found it better to train alone. When I have worked out with "friends" I tend to be a trainer, spending more time on making sure they are doing things right than focusing on me and when I'm at the gym that's exactly what time it is. ME time. I won't speak for everyone but for me personally I have a lot on my plate I juggle. The gym is that sacred time I take so I can be selfish and spend alone. Sometimes pushing my limits, punishing myself or just tuning all the bullshit of this world out. To me my gym time is sacred I don't share it anymore.

I like to train a lone as well. In the past I had good training partners who were experienced. Sometimes it's nice to have someone experienced watch your form or give you their opinion about what you need to improve on.

well,it really hurt you deep what he said, didnt it?

i unzip my pants and listen carefully to his pride shattering like a chandelier getting hit by a mack truck...............

Why let it bother you? He's just trying to boost his own ego a little, not tear you down. You crush him on the bench press so he's just trying to feel like he can keep up at the first opportunity.

the cunts that annoy me are the ones who see ur leg pressing 15 plates and they tell u the other day they pressed 20, u calf raise 14 and they tell u they hit 18, but a week later u notice them busting a testicle vein pressing half that............i call it "the azza" sydrome with a partial CHJ persona......

Maybe you should up your tren dose... If YOU were lifting more then he wouldn't dare try and compete....

You didn't mention his reaction to you calling him a sloppy & cheating cunt...that was just getting to the good bit.

Another lifetime ago that was me. I always, always lifted with bigger stronger people than myself when I started training, I felt this was the only way for me to get bigger and stronger. Then, after many years people wanted to train with me.

I became a sadist and trained the shiite out people that wanted to work with me, and left them so sore they couldn't even walk the next day.

Problem solved!

I train with the sig other from time to time

we do lots of different shit instead of acting like a cpl of high schoolers hogging shit like squat rack.. checking each others lifts..
comments go something like "your form blows" "is that all you got?" "pussy"..and more mad smack talking

but then supportive shit like counting out those last reps with "cmon, cmon, cmon, you got this" and "oh, yeah??!!?" for a particularly impressive lift

its not a competition for either party

I suggest that attitude.

Like many above said I train alone. I tell those that would listen "there's a difference between lifting weights and working out" most people don't get it but some do.

Aww na hell no his words didnt bother me a bit...his mouth is always goin on about something...its entertaining...I just wanted to see how many other ppl had to deal with clowns like this. On the other hand he has paid me compliments and wonders why I never wear tank tops to the gym lmao

you should shit down his mouth, then cut off his penis and stick it in his ass. I find that usually does the trick in that particular situation.

I suggest that attitude.
