Tommy Douglas, the former Saskatchewan premier who is credited with being the founding father of Canada's health-care system, was named Monday night as the winner in the CBC's Greatest Canadian contest.
The socialist politician was chosen by CBC viewers as the Canadian who has had the most profound impact on the country's history.

I know the whole anthem, but that's from playing too much NHL2005 on the ole playstation.

Rich, I would think you would know Alexander Graham Bell. He and Gretzky were the only two I knew.

Hey, how the hell did the Strange Brew brothers not make that list? :D

This poll by the CBC is rediculous.

The fact that Don Cherry is up there is obsurd. Alexander Graham Bell should be number 1 he has had a profound affect on the world. Our health Care system is ok at best, there are many faults that need to be improved.

I think it's funny that two hockey personalities are on the list. Not knowing too much about Canadian history, seeing Wayne Gretzky make the list does not surprise me.

I would not expect to see any sports personalities on a list of the 10 greatest Americans.

That list is garbage - how did they do the voting? Did everyone in Saskatchewan vote for their person so that he won? They would have had to vote 10 times each just to get 1,000 votes...

Bet you $10 Jordan, Ali, or Ruth would've made it.

I agree. Living in Texas keeps me a little far removed form all the greats of Canada! Although if I didn't at least know Bell and Gretzky I would consider myself to be a retard!:tard:

Don Cherry is the only one on the list that I have a problem with also. How can someone with such wonderful things to say about the french and foreigners make the top ten list of Canadian greats. Carolyn Parish might as well be on the list. Maybe we (Canadians) have more in common with Don Cherry than we like to admit, obviously some of us voted for him.

Anyone see Carolyn Parish on CNN's Crossfire?? Funny stuff.

I'll put $10 on Ali making the top ten list of the world's greatest human beings.

Very true.

John Candy
I think John Candy counts as two Canadians.

:)

Dammit Pam Anderson was 51, what is this country coming to she should be in the top 5 :)

But isn't Toronto in Canada therefore Johnny making Johnny Canadian?

I'm sorry if Johnny isn't in the top 10, then list is fake.

He lives in Quebec and that isn't part of Canada :p
