I'll be working spring training this year, I'll try to keep up to date on things.
This is good news for several reasons:
1) The Red Sox keep all their young talent (and they have a lot of it)
C) The Yankee fuck nachos don't get him
3) It gets Santana the hell out of the American League
Everyone wins! Well, except the Yankees, but they suck anyway.

Good news for the Mets, he'll do real well in the NL.
I don't know much about the prospects the Mets used for the trade...which is good.

Santana, I believe doesn't have a winning record against the team that matters....Boston.
I would rather stick with the 2 young guns than settle for Santana.

The Mets paid a price in prospects to land Santana, agreeing to send the Twins outfielder Carlos Gomez and pitchers Phil Humber, Deolis Guerra and Kevin Mulvey.
"We are hoping to bring this to a close, soon. Nothing to announce today," Twins general manager Bill Smith said in an e-mail to USA TODAY.
The deal would give the Mets the much-needed ace at the front of their rotation. Santana won the American League Cy Young Award in 2004 and 2006 and is 93-44 lifetime. He went 15-13 with a 3.33 ERA for the Twins last season. Santana has struck out at least 235 batters each of the past four seasons.
While the deal drains much of the talent out of the Mets' farm system, they did manage to hold on to top prospect Fernando Martinez, an outfielder. Instead, they headed the package with Gomez, who turned 22 in December and spent 58 games with the Mets last year.
Gomez is what scouts like to call a five-tool player, a combination of offensive ability that includes power and speed as well as an above-average defensive game and a strong arm. He has worked to cut down a strikeout rate that was high during the early part of a minor league career that began in 2004 after the Mets signed him out of the Dominican Republic. He made his major league debut last May and hit .232.
Humber, 25, is the Mets' 2004 first-round pick who has made five major league appearances, including one start, over the past two seasons. He won 11 games at Class AAA last season, his first full year after having Tommy John surgery in 2005.
Santana would give the Mets the best rotation in the NL East after they missed out on the division title by one game thanks to a historic September collapse. He'd likely be joined by Pedro Martinez, John Maine, Oliver Perez and Orlando "El Duque" Hernandez.
The Twins, meanwhile, would see yet another young star they produced leave the organization. Their Gold Glove outfielder, Torii Hunter, left for the Los Angeles Angels this offseason. Gomez would be a candidate to replace him in center field.
With Santana gone, there is a big opening in the Twins' rotation. Francisco Liriano is on track to return after missing last season following elbow surgery, but Carlos Silva signed with Seattle as a free agent, leaving youngsters Scott Baker, Boof Bonser and Kevin Slowey as the starters with the most experience.

Heh, I was pretty pleased with last year's collapse.
If Pedro's healthy and El Duque somehow finds the fountain of youth during the post season.....well then.
We talked about Guerra this summer on here. He was the Mets' strongest pitching prospect but still a couple years out.

Peter Gammons said the Mets traded 4 of their top 10 prospects, but kept their #1 pitching prospect and their #1 position player prospect. The vibe from Twins fans (based on what I heard on ESPNEWS) is that the Twins got ROBBED. The Red Sox were offering MLB-ready young studs in Lester or Ellsbury.
I just hope he doesn't turn into a Frank Viola.

It sounds like the Mets made a really good deal. I don't know what the twins were thinking. They could have gotten a better deal 2 months ago.
True, but the Yanks were not budging and the deadline was around the corner.
The Twins waited too long. They were hoping Epstein or Cashman would cave and up their antes. Neither one bit. Nice work by both those guys.
They did the right thing.
Gomez has put up better numbers at a younger age in comparison to Jacoby Ellsbury who was the front liner in a deal a couple of months ago. They're getting two solid middle of the rotation guys that will be able to help in '08 and then another pitcher whose upside is that of a 1 or 2 down the road.
I'm not going to say they got a better deal because Gomez (after the Mets rushed him to the majors like the idiots they are) isn't as sure of a thing as either Ellsbury or Hughes, but I really do believe this could work out well for them down the road.
It also doesn't hurt that the Red Sox don't play the Mets, meaning they won't see Santana until late October, whereas the Yankees will see the Mets for 6 games and likely 2 losses or starts.
The Twins will be fun to watch this year.

I think Santana's best years are behind him. Once he gets the big contract he wont be the same.
Do you have any reason for thinking that?
I personally think he'll be excellent for a team that is title contention year in and year out, he was in the past.
I don't think so, although he put in a lot of milage these past couple of years he is playing in a weaker league.
It also helps to have him pitch around competative pitchers like Pedro and El Duque.
I just hope he doesn't get the George Foster flu.
