Moral of the story Before you sponsor a "needy" child, consider this: Are you helping an individual child to rise out of poverty, or are you helping to perpetuate a culture or poverty that will continue to leach off of the international community for another 100 years. Looks like the kids they found that day are doing well. They have polio and Sam looks to have some other health issues but they are clean, fed, cared for and being loved daily. In the village the children work hard. Clearing land, hauling water, washing and cleaning are labor some. These children have a work ethic and maturity that is remarkable. They now have some free time to act like children. I still have a hard time seeing Sam knowing what he has endured as a little boy but it makes me smile to see him receive care and love.

While I don't agree with the let them die others have posted, most of the third world would be better off had they remained western colonies. Look at Zimbabwe, once a food exporter they went communist and kicked out all the white people. Now they are killing off endangered elephants and rhino's for meat because they ate all the grain instead of planting it.
