Anyone ever use one of these? Looks like it would be good for some heavy shrugs, deads and some other exercises. I found one on craigslist for 100$. Think it would be a nice addition to my home gym.

MEGA SHRUG/HIP BAR

Buy it :thumb:

It's a great bar for lifting heavy. It keeps the pressure off your lower back. I use the one at my gym weekly.

i say go for it. at a old gym i used to go to there was a freakishly large human being that swore by it. some thing about it being easier on the joints.

Wow. That is really cheap. Free shipping too. I still can't get over that price. Must be some pretty shitty steel.

damn, I hope not. I just bought one...
but steel is steel... if somehow I manage to load it enough to break it (highly doubtful) I can always weld it.

description says they might be a little scuffed up, but that's fine by me, it's gonna get the hell beat out of it anyway.

I'm gonna grab one too.

WOW, I have had mine for a couple of years now. I bought it from New York Barbells. Great piece of equipment. When I use it, it is like doing deadlifts and squats in one exercise. Then you do shrugs with it! Killer!!
:rocker:

i can vouch for jesup gymp equipment, i bought a squat rack off of them and everything came as promised, i dont think they would sell you a bad piece of equipment!

I hope youre not buying it for the priority of shrugging.

not at all, I'm mainly planning on using it for deads, but the shrugs will be nice as well.

on a side note, I bought it Monday, and it arrived today.
Thats's pretty frikkin awesome.

Still use this baby. I'm thinking about buying the stands for it. Its a pain slapping 45's on it while its on the ground. Not to mention taking them off when finished.

Taking them off always signaled everyone to look in my direction.

On a scale of 1 - 10 I give that 3. Sad cause you usally average around 7 in my book.

I was agreeing with you. Nothing intentionally metaphorical from me..

O, I thought you were referring to taking your pants off our something. I feel stupid now.

healthy store....
hahhaha

anyways back to the subject...

ive seen some guys using these bars at one of my gyms, but ive never used one myself...

they all seem to be freaks of nature though... for what thats worth

interesting, I may have to get one and if it doesn't work, at least I am not out too much $$$

could this also be used for doing a neutral grip press

ive seen these but never examined one or handled one

i looked at some pictures and it may be a little awkward with one bar coming down in your face...

also grip may be a little wide

Yeah, no that wouldn't work.

i've done presses with a trap bar before, basically it takes a little creativity to make it work. I set up the bar on stands and then sat on a bucket under the bar. I think the only way to make it work would be to do it seated like this from the bottom position, or if you have stands tall enough that you can stand and do the press standing. I don't have a high enough ceiling, so I used the first option.
