Very disapointed!

I had to go to the gym the other day alone b/c my workout partner had to do something. So i was at the gym and it was a back and bicep day.It kicked ass, I realized without a spotter, I get so much more of a pump, b/c im forced to all the work alone. Hmmmmm, today was a chest day, and i told him the only time we should spot is when there is ABSOLUTELY no way to get the bar up, and if we need a spot it would be our last rep. Right well to my surpirse, i dont bench what i though i benched, I bench a lot less!. so now I feel like i've been struggling all those time for nothing! So this is just a story for all those who get help from thier spotters. Sorry so long, im pretty dissappointed!

It sounds to me that your partner just doesn't know how to spot a person, lol which isn't good because he/she is only there to help you not lift the weights for you. I've had spotters that know nothing about spotting and it really throws me off on that particular set I'm doing. Spotting takes practice, you don't learn it overnight. Sure it seems simple enough but you need to gage your own spotting strength to each individual. Spotting is a science and the more you do it the better you will get.

Like Large was saying, I find that there is almost nothing as worse as a spotter who doesn't know the "how to's" of spotting.
You might as well just work out alone reach failure and let the weight fall on your chest. Well not to that extreme.

Hey Dis-B, don't get so down on yourself. Could have just been a "bad day" at the gym. We all have them. If you find that your next few chest workouts are just as bad as the last one, then you'll just have to work back up. I agree with the other guys on spotters. It annoys me when a spotter jumps in and helps too soon.

You guys ever see the movie "Space Cowboys"? That scene where the old guys are working the bench press? Classic!!! If you have not seen that flick, RENT IT! I just bought it on DVD.

Just saw that movie last week baboon, what was he benching, like 225? Man that was funny as hell.

I lost my partner about 3 months ago now and for alot of it, I don't miss him but he was a good motovater and I'm scared to go for the 9plates per side on the leg press so I guess I'm gonna have to ask someone.

Nothing pi#$'s me off more than having a spooter who touch's my bar before I am ready. There are times I reach that mid way point and I get stuck then something will kick in and up it goes, then you get some guy who thinks it's his job to lift it for you, feel for ya.Use this as motivation and get mad!!
 
I love it when they dont really hand it of to you when they do lift it off. They just lay their hands on it. Say they are guiding. Or when they talk to someone when you lifting and they are spotting. Thats how I hurt my shoulder. The little SOB. I want to kill him.

the worst is when your going for a record max or trying to rep something out, and you have it easy, then they take the bar right before your arms extend out. I never have a spotter, unless it is one of my brothers or buddies, they are the only ones who know how to spot the right way.
 
As long as we're venting here, I got a gripe.

Got to the gym this morning at 7, had like 9 hours sleep last night, to much I think cause I felt really tired for some reason. Anyway, there's like 3 chares in a circle where you can put your shoes on and stuff and when I get there, two of them had someone's bags on them and the third had a big bag in front of it.
Normally I would just move one off but this morning I was tired and pissed off at how ignorant people can be so I through the two bags off and kicked the third over.
Some lady on the stepper was just glaring at me, probably one of them what her's but ****im if they want to be that ignorant.

Fock 'em, Scotty!! Maybe next time that person will take the hint. I hate when one dude in the locker room spreads ALL of his clothes, shoes, towel, etc across an entire bench, leaving no room for anyone else to change.
 
To build huge muscles you need to lift big weights, but remember, this is not a race of who use more lbs, the name of the game is call : "Feel the weight and get a good pump"

I dropped my workout partner since he was injury prone and always complaining.

I thought I would end with the phrase:
"Be cool... stay in school..."
I think I took it too literally.
