What exacly do they do? and do you reccomend them for a noobie?

Belts help support your back and maintain good form when pushing the limits. I use them when performing near max lifts. For a beginning lifter, you won't need one now. If you plan on going onto a serious strength training program, you should look into buying one though.

Be sure to buy a belt that is the same width all the way around. The belts that are smaller in the front and wide in the back are only made for olympic lifting and other overhead lifting.

youre better off getting your form right and building up your core. if you use a belt all the time you could hurt yourself.

I stopped using my belt, I want my body to do the lift, not any assitance device. No gloves, no belt, no wraps or straps for me.

I have a history of back issues starting around the time I was kicked in the back by a soccer coach for "hitting a ball incorrectly" I was 11 or 12 years old.

My back has never been better so long as I keep lifting.

your coach kicked you in the back? you should go find him and beat the shit out of him. kicking a twelve year old in the back over soccer is some dumb shit.
